Logic 7.2.2 On Mac Pro Quad - What about my Quad??

Can any one shed some light please on the 7.2.2 Logic update??

It states increased performance through FULL USE of Mac pro quad Core Architecture - well, I have a Quad Mac (not pro - not Intel). What will it do for me?? Will it give me full use of my quad processors?? or are they not bothering with our machines now the new babies have arrived???

Many Thanks!

Hey there Jonsey. There's a lot going on at the Apple/Logic disscussion board about this. I just bought a PPC Quad not knowing about this b.s. and I installed the 7.2.2 update thinking it was for the ppc quad. The old quad has been around for a year and no fix. The new Intel comes out and within months it's done. Don't wait for it...There is a trick people have been doing called the 'node hack/trick'. If you're running 7.2.2 then install node 7.2.2. Set up the node in Audio/Prference then close Logic. Start the node, start Logic and your G5 should show up as a node. People have been able to get up to 350% of the 400% available. I tried it and got many clicks and pops. I haven't hit the ceiling on this Quad yet so I haven't messed with it since.

Hi Noizy, Thanks for that info. I dont know enough about node. Can you or any one enlighten me on this?? Like? What is it? What does it do?? I would try what you said but your getting clicks and pops?? Surely tere must be an update for our machine to?? are they seriously blowing us out? I bought this quad knowing that all four processors dont fully work on Logic but was hoping that they would update. My comp is doing fine right now and I wont be upgrading my machine for another 2-3 years but it would be nice to give it a kick up the back side!

With nodes you can basically hook up another Mac to your main Logic machine by ethernet - Logic can utilise the CPU power of the second machine (the 'node') for Logic's plugins. Note: this only works with Logic's plugins, not 3rd party ones.

The node software is on one of the Logic installer discs. I haven't used it myself but I believe that when it's installed you can then specify in Logic whether to use the onboard CPU to power a plugin, or the node CPU.

Go to:

http://discussions.apple.com/categor...categoryID=156

and type in node trick in the search field. You'll get all the info I know. That's specifically for node-ing a Quad to itself. Something Apple never mentioned because it's probably some quirky thing someone found. Good luck!!

Thanks for that... now im a little enlightened. I cant see the point of all these guys trying to get all four processors to work like this when:

A. Most are having problems
b. It works mainly for logic plugs
c. None of them have maxed out their quads yet

As for Apple not doing an update for our older quadsfuuck

LOL! Right on bro. I'm busy making music and there seems to be quite a a ceiling to work with from my ol' Quicksilver Dual 1.3. I tried the node trick for fun and it popped and was unusable. Moved on with my life. Once most of my hardware/software stuff is universal binary I'm going to Inteland!

Greetings Jonesy,

I totally agree.

I have little faith in Apple worrying about the welfare of use Quad owners.

So....I have decided to sell my Quad and go for a 2.66 Mac Pro.
The money I make from the sale will allow me to purchase a new Mac 35%more powerful
than my existing Quad plus full support from Apple...well at least for the next year or so

I have spoken to some Apple resellers and at the moment Quads are still selling for the same price if not more than a NEW 2.66 Mac Pro

As we are in a transitional period Quads still fetch a good price so I think you should jump whilst the value of your old machine is high.

I wish you all the best.
