FireWire chain question

Hi all,

Can I turn off one of the drives in my chain and still use the rest?
I have 5 drives and i want to turn off the 3rd one in the chain, will i get any problems?

Cheers

Have you tried simply placing that drive at the end of the chain?

All 5 are backup drives... some are double backup ... everytime i need a different drive ... and i don't like to leave them on when thry're not used or connect/disconnect them all the time.
Anyhow, can you do this without any problem?

If you've got so many devices chained it's probably better to use a Firewire hub. It will be far less likely to have problems due to excessive cable length, and you can power on and off any of the disks at will, without interrupting the bus.
