Angry a couple of ongoing problems with Protools LE 7.1 cs9

So I’m having a bit of a hard time right now with PT LE 7.1 cs9 on my dual G5 2.7 with my 002Rack.

I’m running OS 10.4.6 (the correct OS - it is approved) and I have 4 gigs Ram.

I repair permissions once a week, and before and after software installs. I have a clone of my system drive, I always keep my session data on my second internal SATA drive, and copies on two other drives at all time using SYNK backup software ....from my master folder to backup folders.

I save often and about every 5-10 minutes I do a “save as” I append a new # to the end of my session filename.... so my files are named: (title) mix v1, (title) mix v2, (title) v3 etc. I’m covered if I have a data corruption issue. I run the correct version of Disk Warrior periodically, and it doenst hardly find anything wrong.... I don’t have ANY illegal software or hacked plugs on my system - I buy all my software, and keep it up to date. I’m doing everything right, I think!

Problem #1)

I was mixing a song on monday...... I got up to about v 40..... send the artist a reference mix (a ruff) and called it a night.

The next day I went back to resume work, and I couldnt open up the v40 mix, and I got a weird error message COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR REQUEST BECAUSE ASSERTATION IN ‘PTSESS_RUNTIME.CPP’ LINE 14870 WHILE TRANSLATING MIDI PLAYLISTS

I tried to open up v40, v39, v38 etc.... back about 2 hours - none of them would open!!!! V12 would - but that would have sucked to have lost 2 hours of my life....

I then did some troubleshooting, and at the advice of Digi Support I did the following:

trash digi databases on all drives -
also - trash:
users/ (username)/ library/preferences/ THE FOLLOWING three files and one folder:
com.digidesign.ProToolsLE.plist
com.digidesign.CoreAudioManager.plist
com.digidesign.ProTools.plist

and the folder DAE prefs
also I trashed volumes - system HD / library / application support / digidesign / databases - trash the contents

I was advised that this may well help me.

It did not work - 2 hours of saved sessions all refused to open up.

Ultimately I created a new session, imported all the tracks from the corrupt session that I couldn’t open (luckily that worked) , and resumed work that way, but it was a drag.
Eventually I finished the mix on that first song, then created a template session, made it stationary, and made my second session for my second song for that. (I have a TON of stuff to mix in the next few days....)

Now today I’ve been mixing the second song for a few hours..... again saving v #’s every so often. I printed a mix, closed the session.... then a few minutes later I went back to the session to make a change.
Now I’m having the same problem AGAIN - the same error message!!!! - COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR REQUEST BECAUSE ASSERTATION IN ‘PTSESS_RUNTIME.CPP’ LINE 14870 WHILE TRANSLATING MIDI PLAYLISTS

Many of my saved sessions refuse to open. This sucks!!!!! I don’t have time to deal with this again and again!

I trashed the same pref files as listed above..... ran Disk Warrior, shut down, everything..... and tried again to open up the session.... SAME PROBLEM.

What on earth can i do - other than creating a new session and importing all the data from the session that wont open? Any ideas as to why this is happening repeatedly on many different sessions, even after i trashed all those prefs etc? This is a big time suck.

Problem #2)

Today I suddenly I started getting this famous error:
THE OPERATING SYSTEM HELD OFF INTERRUPTS FOR TOO LONG. IF THIS OCCURS FREQUENTLY, TRY INCREASING THE H/W BUFFER SIZE IN THE PLAYBACK ENGINE PANEL (-6093)

My buffer is 512, im using 2 processors, i’m at 95 or 99% CPU, and DAE was level 2 (default)

i tried a 1024 buffer, and various other combinations of things - and no luck.

I’m using a canopus box to play video out the FW port. I found that if I took video offline then the error immediately message stopped happening, and it fixed the problem. I’d like to see video..... any thoughts?

Currently the movie files are on the SATA 2 drive... perhaps it might help if i moved them to the system drive?

Ug.

Thanks for any tips and advice....

I had a similar problem (sessions becoming corrupt and the only fix being a new session into which I imported tracks) on one of my ProTools machines (early PT 7.1) and I "think" the problem was a plugin, in my case Kontakt 1.5.

I upgraded to Kontakt 2 and the problem went away. I doubt Kontakt will be your problem, but it could certainly be a plugin that's not happy with cs9. Try taking them out of your plugins folder until it works.

BTW - cs9 is working great for me on 4 PT machines now.

my only plugs are altiverb, echoboy, and waves L2 etc...... no instruments at all.

i mean - if the files are already corrupted...... i dunno what to do to fix the problem - as i find out too late!

Cool

I had the same problem.
In my case it was Trilogy.
Just couldn't load the last songs.
After wrapping it with VST to RTAS 2.0 I was safe.
maybe you check some of your plugs, it doesn't matter if you call them in a session or not.It seems to me that some just make trouble right out of the plugins folder.

The point isn't to fix the corrupted sessions (you'll have to import them into a new session just as you've done already) but to stop it from happening again.

It was Kontakt for me but since you don't use it it's obviously not Kontakt in your case. Is Altiverb a current version? Otherwise, I have no suggestion.
