| Macook with 5400 or 7200 hd? I`m thinking of buying a Macbook with 2gb memory to go with Pro Tools LE, digi002r. -I have a dedicated external hd (OWC) that I use for Audio that is 7200rpm. Would you say that there is a need to upgrade my internal hd on the Macbook from 5400 to 7200rpm even though I`m not gonna use the internal drive for audio? Will Pro Tools run better on a 7200rpm hd? Thanks KK ![]() |

| You see overall better performance with the 7200rpm. That's what I plan on doing with the 17" MB Pro because it's a no-cost option, but 20gb less HD space. You'll see faster boot times, application launching, and virtual memory page swapping if you run out of ram space. However, you'll have less battery time, and the laptop will likely run slightly hotter. |

Thanks:-) I`m thinking of buying a Macbook, and not a Macbook Pro. I see on Apples site that I don`t have the option to add a 7200rpm to the Macbook, but only the pro version. It still can be done though? If I buy a 7200rpm and do it myself, is there any difference in changing the hd? Thanx KK ![]()

| Actually, the new Macbook's have a user-serviceable hard drive door on the bottom of the case. The only difference would be that your replacement drive would not be covered by the Apple warranty. |

| A client had a 17' MAcbook Pro in the studio the other day it had a 7200 RPM drive, it shortens the battery life a bit and you can cook breakfast on it too. The thing ran so hot it you need a pillow to rest it on your lap. |

That sounds good if you wanna camp with it out in the wild... 90% of the time, this machine(my new macbook!) will only run Pro Tools...everything else is secondary. As long as it doesnt affect Pro Tools in a bad way, maybe I`m better of with a 5400rpm HD...? KK ![]()
