Melodyne question

I like using the graph mode in auto tune...can you do the same type editing with melodyne? I like to be able to draw in the melody as needed...between words and stuff...not just move stuff around word by word.

Yeah, you can do the same type of editing, but also a whole lot more.

Melodyne splits a note's pitch into average pitch, pitch drift, modulation, and formant, and you can edit each aspect independently. You can also play with note length, timing, and phrasing. You can edit the pitch transitions from one note to another, etc...

Sounds more complicated than it really is. Though, in fairness, it takes a little while to understand what tools to use where.

Anyways, there's a demo on the Celemony site, so you can try it for yourself.

well this is strange because I also emailed melodyne with the same question and they said no.

I don't like any auto modes...I want to pencil-in the stuff myself like you do in graph mode in auto tune...not just grab words and move the thing up and down as a whole.

Waffle, it's a little bit different from autotune, but it's really intuitive and natural sounding. There are a LOT of ways to manipulate the melody.

Why don't you stop by my place sometime and I can show you how to use it. You have to bring me some breakfast though! ~Jason 512-638-7662

You can achieve the same goal with melodyne in a far more intuitive and pleasing manner. The equivalant to drawing in notes would be using the seperation tool to chop up syllables and move those individual pieces around to wherever you would like. I feel that if you like graphical mode, then melodyne is your dream come true. I also like to do all of my tuning manually and melodyne hands down is the best thing for it. I love it so much that I am looking into investing in the company if its possible. Its just that good.

Which version of Melodyne is the best for individual mono vocals? Is there any better quality on the multitrack versions, or does the mono version do the job just as well on mono tracks? Obviously, a big difference in price.

AFAIK the qualiy is the same. What makes the multitrack worth it for me is doing huge piles of background vox. Just pull em all in an do them together. Especially if stuff is shaky and you can't quite figure out what the harmony is supposed to be. Just move the notes til its right.

I have Cre8 which gives you 8 tracks, but I'm totally addicted so I'm going to the studio version as soon as possible. The mono version would be pretty frustrating. I haven't had much luck with the Melodyne Bridge so I just use it stand alone. The problem would be if I couldn't load the song to play behind the vocal. How do you know if something sounds right in context?

I'm going to keep preaching that a Melodyne plug in should actually turn your sequencer's track into a melodyne track. That would be amazing.
