They are going to need to be FIERCE on price, as the competition is harsh in the 500 world. I think the Aphex 19" rack range, had kind of lost it's way/place, so not sure whether they will be able to make an impact with 500 modules

Cheers | I remember back in the 70s so many albums used the Aural Exciter that one Eagles album stated on the back "THIS ALBUM WAS NOT MIXED WITH THE AURAL EXCITER" lol

BTW, those threads very rarely have fairchilds in them either.
There's no doubt that aphex is a fairly outside the box and esoteric company, but they have always built top notch quality gear with innovative ideas behind them. It will be interesting to see what they have up their sleeves....
BTW, people go on and on and on about their ultra high end ($$$$) compressors that can do amazing amounts of GR with very few artifacts. I always get a laugh out of it - a used 651 or 661 can do the same thing and is STILL waaaay under the radar. You can easily pic up a dozen for the price of the high end subject being talked about.

I rock my 661 on every session. I love that thing! I recently acquired an Aphex gate on EBay too.
Can't wait to see what they come up with. They are smart designers!

I love my 661's. I use them all the time. Totally a sleeper compressor but I have no idea why. For the price that they can be had for used everyone should own one or two.

I have always heard that they printed it as an inside joke towards Jackson Browne who had "The Album was mixed with The Aural Exciter" printed on several LPs, However right above that it says "This album was recorded and mixed utilizing M.C.I. consoles and tape machines" so I guess they had a sponsorship deal also

I love their interfacing boxes and the like, Aphex is a great company, not top hi-fi but definitely good, affordable quality products.

Been back on there site last few days and looked at products and manuals and Aphex definitely had some of the most innovative hardware and cost effective in the recording industry.
Really looking forward to any new product.
Cheers

Never listen to opinions regarding gear. For every 50 nobodies on Gearslutz that say a piece of gear doesn't sound good enough to cut it, I know at least one somebody who is cutting it in NYC with that piece of gear. ... www.diehipster.com |

188 is great! iOS remote app would be nice, though.

| I don't know if they're being "fierce" (I'd say Lindell and Radial, and maybe Chameleon Labs) are fierce, but with most at $499 the Aphex stuff is definitely reasonable (especially if it does sound as good as the 188 it's based on).

Nonetheless, I think $500 is more than fair for 500 series modules. Aphex has a solid reputation, I can't imagine the modules being under par. Even if the company is recycling their old technology, in my opinion Aphex tech is worthy of recycling and still holds up today.

Frank

| I have high expectations as well, but I don't think that 500-series modules "should" cost any specific amount...there's a lot more than the format that should dictate the price.
