which midi interface?

i have just upgraded to the ua apollo.
it has no midi.
my previous digi003 had midi.

I need a midi device/interface i can plug 5/6 midi devices into, to send and receive midi, through the same channel.

ideally i need a rack mountable one. preferable, but not essential.
i need to have each channel to be input and output, so i don't have to have 2 midi cables running from the synth.

i've noticed the older midi interfaces often have 8 ins then 8 outs. nightmare.

on the digi003 the channels were both ins and outs.

any recommendations?

midi is so simple, its crazy some of the prices of some gear for simple midi.
are there any cheap small devices?

most cheaper devices of midi interface nature are channel limited. meaning you'd only get 2-4 i/o.

your going to probably pay 150 and up for what your after unless you score a deal.

midi man devices were usually inexpensive, but i/o limited.

so the ins and outs are separate?
or can the ins act as outs too?

8 seperate outs & ins. has a "through" switch which routes each in to the corresponding out. more expensive than 170 € in the US or elsewhere though.

hi joe,

thanks. i did see theirs.
i was hoping to pay less thank £100, and possibly get a used one.
or am i dreaming?

i cursed the digi 003 every time i used it, but it certainly did well considering how many in/outs/midi/etc it had going on.

was hoping there would be an inexpensive solution for midi after shelling out on an apollo.

can you tell me if i can just plug in 4 midi cables from my 4 synths, and have those cables send and receive without having to unplug anything?

im after something where the inserts act as in/out

is there anything cheaper/older that i could pick up used that does this?

Try these guys: MIDI Solutions

Haven't personally used their gear, but probably would if I had any need for the type of stuff they make...

Have just bought one of those and will dump it right away. It acts poorly with sysex and i can make it crash anytime by just moving encoders on my Slim Phatty or OTO. I will get a Motu Time Piece AV USB now...

Well I can tell you what NOT to buy. A Cakewalk / Roland UMG2 or whatever it's called.
In the last month, both of mine have gone tits up.
Not a driver problem.
Just DOA.
