In itunes, go to preferences, advanced, importing, then click on the "import using" and select mp3. After you select that option, anything you import will be converted to mp3. Any other pre-existing file that you already have in itunes that is a wav, aiff, or apple lossless, you can select and convert to mp3 as well.

Hope this helps

Try experimenting with using (or not using VBR) or filtering below 10 Hz. Sometimes switching these on is not a good idea, especially VBR for full compatibility. Fortunately VBR is now very common, but people running Windows 98 and old players might not have VBR, in which case you will get some really funny results during fades etc.

BTW, you can click on any file in a playlist and "convert it" to whatever your "import" setting is. Right click, and a menu comes up. Mac or PC.

also free, and far, far superior, is to use Exact Audio Copy with the LAME encoder.

no offense, but screw itunes.

You can also dl the LAME codec and use within iTunes as a script.

And yes it is FAR superior to the Fraunhofer codec.

Use alt preset insane for full 320 bitrate conversion.
