| Lives for gear | Motif ES rack - Digital to PT7
I just tried to connect my motif ES Rack to 192 SPDIF Chassis connector and I'm getting that crackle noise like you have connected two devices with different sample rate. Motif doesn't seems to have changeable sample rate, and my session was on 24 BIT 48K. My 192 is clocked with BIG BEN, but again, Motif does not have external clocking option (Roland 5080 has it!!!). Any suggestion what to do? Mozart

Since I see no reply yet, I'll throw in my 2 cents in case it might help. I've had a similar problem with Proteus 2K, but my mixer has built-in SRC which works for me. I think the Motif ES is running at 16/44.1, and if so, you'd need to convert the SPDIF audio to 24/48 to match your session (assuming Motif ES analog doesn't sound good enough to you). Here's one possible workaround... a.Monitor the Motif ES analog out until all MIDI parts are created & ready for mixing b.Open a new session at 16/44.1 containing your MIDI parts only (same tempo, length as original session) c.Record the Motif ES audio via SPDIF (with my RME I select AutoSync for external clock - I don't use ProTools) d.Convert the resulting audio files to 24/48 when you import into your original session With the SRC, you might want to record the Motif ES analog in your original session for a quality comparison (also I'm assuming Motif ES runs at 16/44.1 - you should confirm this).

| SRC avaliable on Digi 192 digital inputs
I use the 192 to directly input my Motif ES7, XV-5080 & Triton rack digitally. The 192 supports SRC with its digital ports (via DB25 & ADAT connectors - Not the individual spdif/optical ones). I use the DB25-XLR M+F AES/EBU DigiSnake plus 4 Hosa's CDL-313 coaxial-AES/EBU box to connect all my synths digital outputs. Then go to hardware setup and Digital to select SR on all AES/EBU 1-8 inputs. No more conversion & clocking problems!! Hope this helps. |

The SPDIF and lightpipe outputs of the MOTIF ES output 44.1k/16-bit. If the sampling rate of your session is 48k, you'll have to go analog so you don't have any clocking issues. spiritguitar's solution also works, but that's a lot more work. I like running the analog outputs of my MOTIF ES through an analog preamp before hitting the A/D converter. If working with a 44.1k session, I'll go digitally to Pro Tools and then out and back in for any analog treatment (if needed). |
