ProTools 9 Intermittent Screen Freezing

Hey all,

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I've seen others online have this same problem, but I've never seen it resolved. I've spent hours searching the DUC, here on Gearslutz, and the web and can't get an answer.

Any time my ProTools 9 session gets up around 67%+ of system usage, the screen starts freezing randomly. The audio will still play, but the screen is frozen. I have to repeatedly hit command+option+esc for about 20-30 seconds before it snaps ProTools back into reality. It is incredibly intermittent…sometimes happening every minute or two, sometimes once every 10 minutes. And unbelievably frustrating and disrupting to workflow.

I've done all the obvious stuff…killing preferences, repairing disks, changing hard drives, save session copy as, etc, etc.

Once I saw someone mentioning doing some stuff in Terminal about changing something with the graphics from "yes" to "no", but I'm not smart enough to figure that stuff out on my own.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Running ProTools 9.0.1 (though this happened, along with other bugs on subsequent PT9 updates. This version is the least buggy for me, but this one still persists)

That description matches closely to the lagging/unresponsiveness-problem some users are having with Logic after updating osx to ML. I am one of them, sorry to say. For me Reaper and Cubase seems stable but Logic is no fun at the moment. I don't have Protools.

No fun indeed. It's just short of maddening. I've devolved to printing plugins so my computer doesn't get up to that dreaded 67%. Le sigh.

Well, if anyone else runs into this in the future, I think I may finally have it solved. I maxed out the RAM on my computer and so far am yet to see any further screen freezing issues (not to mention my plugin count is way up!).

I probably should have thought of this a few years ago when the problem started...

Anyways, I hope someone else can learn from my fail.
