Basic Hard Disk Doubt

Hi All!

I have a Cubase SX3 set up running with Windows XP SP2, running on an AMD 3000+ board with 2gb ram... do all my production on an internal hdd which is 7200 rpm...

I also have an external hard disk which is 7200 rpm...this is connected to the machine via high speed usb2.0... my question is...

Is it possible to record and playback at the same time (a normal recording opreration) using this external hdd... will usb2.0 be fast enough to transfer, write and read data to/from this external device...

Thanks for your time...

yes, depends how much data... did u do a deskbench test on the drive? (it's a small free utility to measure your disk sustained transfer rates)

you should have no problem at all. just a question of how many tracks you can do at once. i would gues that you can get at least 16 play and 16 record simult. make sure you are not using that same usb bus with any other bus hogs though, like trying to run a usb video card. apparently firewire 400 can handle more tracks than usb2 even though the specs are better for usb2.
