Install of Pro Tools 9.02 & updates crash explorer.exe

So, I've reached my wit's end with this one. I've had to re-install windows through my experimentation probably 5 times in the last several days. shortly after a recent windows update, my OS was made non-genuine and started breaking down. I decided to just format my system drive and reload windows & everything else. It is a process I'm very used to.
The problem is one that I've put up with for a while not remotely knowing the source. I have figured out this week that the culprit is pro tools 9. The issue I am having on repeated fresh installs of everything is explorer.exe crashing upon a right click of non-system drives in the left-hand portion of the windows explorer window. I have tried different combinations of drivers, versions, whatever, and nothing is preventing this error from occurring. Has anyone experienced and solved this issue?

Software installed before pro tools:
windows 7 64bit professional
The standard gamut of drivers from motherboard manufacturers cd
firewire card drivers
GPU drivers
saffiremix interface software

When all of this is done, the machine runs swimmingly. The moment Pro Tools 9.02 full installer downloaded from avid is installed, the right click will make explorer.exe to crash every single time. What gives??

My setup is:

Asus P8z68pro
i7 2600k
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB ram
asus GTX570 gpu
ssd system drive
3 internal hdd
1 usb3 external hdd
SIIG firewire pci card

Focusrite Saffire 56

And again to reiterate, this begins happening only after pro tools is installed.

Any thoughts?
