Pro Tools 10 Stock Plugins?

I currently have a Windows 7 64 System with PT8 LE and a C24. I have plug ins I purchased years ago (Waves Diamond and SSL, etc). For the life of me I cannot find my system disks for them. Anyway thats not my question.

I am moving to a HDX System with 16 I/O this month. Since I am a software developer and my current machine died I was going to purchase a new Mac Pro to build the new system and move my i7 Windows box to use for my work (software dev). Seems like a good time to move to mac.

Anyway my budget will be blown and woudl like to know how the stock plugins are? I heard good reviews on the channel strip. i will only be doing tracking and limited mixing. All final mixes and mastering will be done elsewhere.

I will eventually get a waves bundle (TDM) or AAX when they make them.
using the stock pro tools plugins would I miss the Waves ones?

Thanks!

I personally did some mixes with just the stock PT plugins and I found them more than useful. I am using EQ3 all the time anyways, Dyn3 is quite capable for color-free compression and even bf76 is not all bad. Even D-Verb is one of my favorite for small rooms. The old lo-fi can be a hidden gem if used right.
I haven't used the new channel strip that comes with PT10, but I guess it will be quite usable as well.
You said, said you do mostly tracking. There you don't need much plugins anyway, maybe some reverb for the cue mix and some rough EQing and compression, that's it. If the final mixes are to be done elsewhere, I personally wouldn't bother (or spend money) on 3rd party plugins. And you get full AAX including DSP from those.

And regarding the Waves plugins, I am using the SSL and CLA-compressor bundles all the time, but it does not make too much sense to me to have a DSP-based HDX system and my main plugins would be non-DSP... (Waves is not planning to do AAX-DSP).

FWIW if you know what version you have, you can log in to your waves acct and download the installers. You already have the answer to your main question

you should be OK then

When I prepare something for my students, I have to limit myself to just the stock plugs and I feel you can get by just fine for basic stuff, EQs, delays comps, gates, mods and saturation

IMO, the stock reverbs are a little lacking, but if you are not doing the final mixes, it really is not that big an issue.
