i have been through this process in the past with protools 9 copy and the only way to do it legal is to transfer his licence from his ilok into yours. this cost 25 USD and can be done via ilok.com. once licence is in your account hopefully seller can send you basic dvd install of protools 10.0 , if all what he's got is download installation he can still burn it on dvd and send it to you. just to let you know you need to have 10.0 in order to install updates that you can find on avid website. if the buyer lives too far or does not want to send you protools installer you can still order it from avid website (replacement dvd). it costs about 15 USD i believe. and yes even if this is a second hand copy you can still upgrade to next version (all you need to have is your valid licence into your ilok account to be eligible). hope that helps.

I've never used a PT10 installer disk. I just download the latest version from Avid's DUC and install that. It's basically PT10HD, and depending on your iLok license, it will just unlock the features of the license that you own.

As far as the iLok license, if it's the only license in his account, and he's willing to give the iLok account to you, you can simply log in with his user name/password and change the profile to your name, e-mail address, DOB and change the password and security question. You can change everything except the actual username login.
If he wants to keep his iLok account, then as mentioned, spend the extra $25 to transfer the license so you will be able to upgrade to v. 11 when released.

thanks for the help.he said he would give me pro tools ten hard copy bought from store with ilok and his name and password he uses to login. Is $300 a good price .
