software that shows freq response of outboard eq's

hi,
is there a program out there that helps you look at the freq response of your outboard eq? i am not interested in the programs that "mimic" the sound of the eq but rather am interested in obtaining visual data that shows the frequency response at a particular setting.

regards,
electric

hmmm....that is a cool tool. however, i guess what i am looking for is a tool like Q Clone but has only the graphic display and does not filter your audio. i would like to get the frequency response of my outboard gear and have it displayed on the computer. maybe q clone is all that is available that does this. i wont spend that kind of cash for it though.

sorry, i wasnt very clear. i am interested in understanding the eq curves of some of my outboard to get a better idea of what they are doing at certain settings. its really more educational than anything.

I applaud your scholarly interest. Many people just accept things as presented with too little skepticism.

I use Sound Forge which has a built-in spectrum analyzer. Be aware that a typical 1/3 octave RTA is not adequate for this type of research. You want a tool that can do an FFT analysis down to 1 or 2 Hz resolution, which means an FFT "size" of at least 8,192 data points (more is better).

I too use Sound Forge's spectrum analyzer. I think they may have taken it out of the post Sony acquisition versions. I have version 4.5 which does have it, and I also have version 7.0 which doesn't (unless it moved menus and I haven't found it).

I think there might be some free plugins out there that will give you what you need too. Anyone??

Good Luck!
