Setting Up Novation SL MkII in Advanced Mode, Automap Disabled

Just posted this on DUC, but I know the level of expertise here and am hopeful someone here can help if no one there can.

Background:

I am thinking of keeping my Novation 61SL MkII as a master controller even though Automap doesn't play well with my system. I will not install it again. I have until Tuesday to return the MkII. Hope to determine if this is a worthwhile option for me before then.

Main Questions:

1. With the learn function disabled, how do I match control numbers in Pro Tools with controllers on the MkII? Does Pro Tools have a list of its control numbers available somewhere? I don't see it in the documentation. Is this even the right approach? I have never set up my own templates and the manual for the MkII didn't seem to address this. It did give me a headache, though. For starters, how do I set the transport buttons on the MkII to control PT's transport functions?

2. How do I even set up the MkII as a midi controller in PT, or is this unnecessary? I've tried HUI, M-Audio...etc., but each option brings up a prompt explaining that there is no controller of that type recognized.

I am sure I will have a hundred more questions once I have these two answered. The fact that there are three templates in this controller for a TX81Z makes me want to keep it!!! I have a TX802 on its way here and I'm hoping this will make a nice controller for it. Could be the templates will be plug and play even from the 81Z. That said, if it can't be integrated successfully with PT that's a little extravagant on its own.

Thanks for any help!!!

Send a message via AIM to jikky
Return it and buy it again to get a new set of trial time to see if you can get it to work.

Brockorama,

Like I said, man. Not doing Automap. That renders this video inconsequential. Appreciate it, though!

Jikky,

The thought has definitely crossed my mind. I bought one before and had to return it, however. It was actually broke. Couldn't even plug in the USB. The port was trashed. Good old GC. To return this and get another one could be pushing it. I guess they can't really do much, but I'm not sure I want to deal with my own awkwardness. Thanks for the suggestion!
