OMG Please help! VST Instruments stop outputting sound!

I am freaking devastated. I don't know what's causing this problem but it happened after I paid and downloaded some drum sample packs in .WAV format.

Any VST/RTAS instrument I have stops playing audio after about 5 seconds of playing the keys on my MIDI controller. Then I can press the keys all I want but no sound will come out of the VST (even though the virtual keyboard is still being triggered on the VST). If I change the patch, the sound starts working again and the same thing happens after 5 seconds. So, in essence, I can only use a plugin for a limited 5 seconds before no sound is outputted. In addition, stock Ableton instruments work fine.

I have tried removing all the VST instruments/effects and moving them one by one back into the Ableton folder and this still happens. Same with Pro tools.

No idea what is causing this, but these are my specs.

Mac Pro (2,1) 2 x 3.0 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
10 GB Ram (some are 2 GB sticks, some are 1 GB sticks, but in symmetry)
Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4
Ableton Live 8.2.1
Pro Tools 10
Digi 003 Factory Console/Interface

If anyone could please hep me, I am being tortured by this problem. No idea what is going on. I have had plenty of problems with various VSTs not working in the past but nothing like this where none of them work after 5 seconds.

First thing calm down . Computers and software are machines not ghosts. Where there is a problem there is a solution.
Common troubleshooting:.
1. Did you change something. New hardware? New software?. New gadget connected to you DAW?. Any changes in you OS?
2. If not. Everything legal there?(sorry, it is a common problem).
3. Now you can go deeper. Is MIDI working properly?. I dont know OSX but there must be MIDI monitoring soft like MidiOX. Just check if it works.
4. VST might be triggered but maybe the your controller/keyboard freaks out. Check again with any MIDI tool.
5. Next would be hardware. MAC users will help.
Hope this helps. Good Luck

Yes, everything is legal but I have some plugins that were left on the computer by the person I purchased it from. I didn't have any issues before. I said in another post which nobody answered that I took out every plugin and out them in one by one... twice. First time everything seemed to work but after a while, it went back to the same problem. It's not a MIDI issue as I have multiple MIDI controllers and the sound gets cut out completely and there is no transient as would be the case if the MIDI stopped working. And, like I said, if I change the patch, the sound comes back but disappears again after a few seconds.

Thanks for your help, and yeah its not a ghost but if I have to reinstall everything and the operating system, I'd rather see a ghost.

Ok new revelation.

Today, or right now I should say, the plugins are working fine but I noticed the same thing happen in Reason!

I made an entire song and at the end, I added an NN19 sampler and loaded up a sample. While I started playing around the sound suddenly dropped again, but this time I saw what happend! It's like the volume fader was automated and suddenly, out of the blue, the fader was turned down.

I then turned it up, still while the song was playing... the fader stayed up for 3 seconds, and turned itself back down. So, there is a GHOST in my computer....

Man, this issue is really beating me up right now. I don't know what's going on really, but at least I'm noticing it in all these audio applications. It's very very strange.

Wonder if my computer got a virus? It's a Mac, but who knows.
