Multiple Export

Does anyone else feel this would benefit them? Some setup where you could export from your daw to wav and mp3 or flac and mp3? I was having to export twice today for wav to digital distro and then mp3 for my phone.... Hassle!

What app, are you using? My main DAW logic allows you bounce multiple formats with one mouse click.

Not a bad idea, but I wouldn't benefit so much from that (actually, I don't even need my DAW to be able to export mp3's). I like to just export wav files and then convert them with another software. That way I can choose the mp3 encoding algorithms and I don't have to tweak the DAW if I want to change them.

I bounce to BWF, then use XLD to convert to delivery formats.

Sonar has a basic version of this. (I'm two versions back on 8.5. Perhaps it's been improved beyond what I've seen.)

You can set up a render to different output filter profiles for different encoders (one at a time) but you do have the option of either keeping or discarding the intermediate, rendered WAV file, in addition the the target encoding.

(The ability to set up different encoder profiles is very, very useful, even if it's limited to one encoded output type beside the wav file. Basically, it's just a command line wrapper for your encoders -- but it lets you set up the default command lines passed by the utility in any way you wish, giving you full access to all command line options -- unlike typical preset wrappers.)

The chorus is a little weak... I think it needs more lasers.

Not a Cubase guy but happy to recommend the LAME encoder, which is free and open source and, in the opinion of many, gives the Fraunhofer encoder a run for its money. Or better.

LAME MP3 Encoder

You can get the command line version and a good list of wrappers through SourcForge. Even if Cubase has its own wrapper utility, it's handy to have a standalone wrapper for encoding stuff on the fly. (But there's nothing to stop one from actually using the command line version at, you know, the command line. )

There are links for wrappers (players, rippers, etc) and other software that uses or works with the LAME encoder here: LAME MP3 Encoder :: Related Links
