Issues With Ableton Live 8

I installed Ableton Live 8 the other day on my macbook pro (with Lion 10.7.5)
Ableton crashed , and I got the message "Company Support Directory" not found , so I looked it up online and followed instructions to remove Melodyne from my computer(which I did) , But ableton is still crashing on start up.
I have tried everything , from software updates to repairing permissions , but Abelton crashes , so my questions are :

1. how to fix this issue?
2. is there an alternative to ableton live for doing a live electronic set.

I need a solution very soon , as i need to take my studio project live.

"P.S - Im new to the forums" :-)

And yea , I am running pro tools 8.05 although its not officially supported on Lion , so do you ppl think that pro tools might be creating some issues which is preventing ableton from firing up ?

When you restart Live, does it offer to create a crash report? Your best bet is probably to send Ableton the crash log, with a note that says that it's an urgent problem.

Another thing you might try is to move all your 3d party plug-ins aside before starting up to see if one of them is causing the problem. There are in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins. If you create a directory called Components-HIDDEN or something like that, you can move all the files in Components into it; ditto for the VST directories. Then Live will start without scanning plugs.

Yea , I get a crash report , Ive sent it to ableton support team , just waiting for a reply ,so I basically move my plugins to a new hidden folder so ableton doesnt detect the 3rd part plug ins , that way , we'll know if its the plugin or something else that's causing the problem? right?
will try..

Right, except it doesn't have to be hidden. You just need to move everything from your "components" folder into a new folder right next to it on your hard-drive. Ableton will scan your components folder on startup. The idea is, if there is nothing there, your third party plugins will be taken out of the equation. If that solves it, you can then start throwing your .component files (your AU plugins) back into the component folder before starting up Live each time,, that way you may be able to isolate the offending plugin. If you try this and Ableton is still giving you trouble, it's likely that the problem doesn't have anything to do with your third party plugins.. That's the theory anyway. Hope it helps.

My guess is that /Users/<you>/Library/Application Support/Ableton is either missing or corrupted or doesn't have the right permissions or something. You might try fixing permissions; it's a shot in the dark but doesn't hurt much. Use Disk Utility in Applications/Utility for that. You might also try looking at ~/Library/Application Support/Ableton in the Finder to see if there's something wrong. Getting to it in the Finder under Lion requires that you use "Go to Folder" under the Go menu, because the Library folder is hidden by default.

Otherwise ... if I were in your position I'd try removing everything related to Live and doing the install again. Sounds like something did not get installed properly. I've never seen or heard of this problem before ...

repair permissions, then re-install. my guess is that either installation got botched somehow, or else when it attempted to create that folder, it couldn't because your ~/Library/Application Support is read-only, or something like that. Just a guess.

If memory serves there's a check box you can trick so you don't have to allow it every time

There's something bad wrong with your installation.

The message that comes up repeatedly is that Live wants access to your keychain, not that it wants to make changes to your computer. I've never seen the latter thing, but it doesn't sound good to me.

You deleted an earlier post of your own, in which you contacted Ableton support etc. I forget what was said. But the vendor support directory must be present, and it should definitely not disappear in between invocations of Live. Something is wrong.

If you have unlicensed stuff -- whether Live or plug-ins -- maybe some of those are causing some problems? My guess is that this is somehow related to something not properly licensed. But if not, then something is deeply wrong with your Live install.

Ableton finally working , it was crashing due to the "DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin" file. Removing the file solved the problem. Thanks for all your suggestions and help \m/

Hoorah!

Yes, it's often one or the other, a plugin or a corrupted installation (which can happen some time after you install).

Sometimes also you can delete these:

close Live
- delete the "Preferences.cfg" , "Undo.cfg", "CrashDetection.cfg" and "Template.als" *and "Undo.cfg" *files (if available) from
/Users/user1/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 8.1.5

- delete the content of these two folders:
/Users/user1/Library/Application Support/Ableton/Live 8.1.5/Database/
and
/Users/user1/Library/Caches/Ableton/Cache/Web/

- update Live

Did you ever find a way to fix this? I have a Black Lion 002 mixer and I can't use it as an interface without the drivers. I use Ableton too much to not be able to use it just for a fancy interface. Thanks!

@ feinberger. Ableton is working perfectly fine! I am using it with an Avid Mbox in the studio and for Live I use the Apogee One :-)
