| I don't use XP, but I'm sure they make a version for it too. "AdAware" from Lavasoft is free and extremely effective. You can also pay money to get the cooler versions, of course. Lavasoft website

| Yeah... the first time you run it, it's always a shocker. Sorry about the Task Manager thing though--no idea on that one. Glad I could help a little.

| You have a virus. It's typical for the newer ones to disable your taskmanager - that way you cant close it down. I suggest getting norton antivirus or something similar. if you can do that start in safe mode, find "taskmgr" duplicate it and call it progkiller or something like that. restart your computer and launch the renamed dup. then shut down anything that looks suspicsious. You'll know when you have found it when you can launch task manager again.

| Hi bopmachine, Iv did a virus check and no virus found I had a lot recently & today. The trouble with the tasmgr began after the last one. So I did what you said with the copy rename and safe modus. The strange thing about is when I launch it I see just a blank taskmgr with the extensions hidden. ill explain myself a little better I see a small white screen with 3 options, End task, Activate and New task but the list with the extensions and running files + CPU etc is not visible and no possibility to close the taskmgr. there must be something running because the cpu power is pretty hot even when i start up protools it gives straight away cpu over run. wath a day those damn monkey virus bastrds ![]() |

| I suggest that you always have an antivirus program enabled with real time protection and updated virus definitions every time you're on the net. Also suggest that you run a fix patch for the virus found to be sure it's completely gone from the computer. These small programs can be downloaded from for example www.symantec.com I wouldn't trust a system recovery myself. Hans, www.hagen.nu |
