OS for music production and video editing

I think music production on a PC would have been much more stable and hardware like when there would have been a dedicated Operating System (OS) for it. The benefits would be lower latency, better memory usage, better CPU usage and hard disk i/o bandwidth, stable drivers, less virus tread ... and more.

I personally never understood why the music companies themselves didn't embraced Linux, which is open source, and together came up with an OS tailored for Music Production and Video Editing and put Apple and Microsoft behind.

I even suggested to Microsoft since they already are delivering 3 versions of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate), but all 3 actually written for the office PC in mind, why not produce an AV version, as there are million of users who are fine tuning Windows themselves for Music production or Video Editing.

Microsoft's answer:
"We appreciate the time spend to help us create a better product. Looking at your suggestions for creating a specific version of Windows with every release we are very carefully looking which different versions are brought to the market and which need to be considered for our user base. We have to support a very wide variety of hardware configurations and usage scenarios and continuously look in which these innovate and how we can support these changes.

Your very specific suggestions with all the respect might be useful in a scenario for those users. However product quality is one of our top priorities as is security and reliability for the wide variety of usage scenario’s in which Windows is used. Malware can also infect the PC even without being connected to the internet as it can also reside on storage media so turning off malware protection and automatic updates even in this scenario is not something we would advise.

Optimizing PCs as you described necessary for this scenario is something we think makes sense for our partner eco-system and most likely not as a commodity being offered though Microsoft."

Conclusion: Microsoft is just not interested, being ignorant.

But who would like to see the music industry to come up with a dedicated OS for music production and video editing?

Remix OS, Ubuntu Studio, and other Linux OS's are exactly what you mentioned. If you want them improved, go help write firewire drivers and debug Ardour and other Linux DAWs. Try to get windows DAWs working in Linux under WINE, and give feedback to the community. If you want something in life, go get it.
