Guys I tried to resize a partition using Partition Magic.
It crashed and my HD now is called PQRP.
I can't access it anymore.
Do you guys know how to fix that?
Yes I googled and got a gazillion different solutions with a lot of technical terms so................I don't know what to do.
1. Boot from a bootable CD that has a recovery program. (Knoppix or something similar)
2. Run recovery program.
3. Recover files to the external HDD .
4. Format your old drive/partition.
5. Copy the stuff back.
DO NOT write anything to the partition you want to recover stuff from (untill it's all recovered).
I have access to files using File Scavenger, I can copy them to other place BUT can't I solve that HD problem?
I don't want to copy 1 TB!
Is formatting the only solution?

I started backing up some files with File Scavenger.
I clicked on My Computer to see what I had in a pen drive...BOOOOOOM...my hd was there and fully working!
WEIRD cause it wasn't working even after re-installed xp.
Damn I hate computers, they do "ghost" stuff behind our backs.
And the worse is even pro computer techs can't explain them
So...does anybody know what happened?

I still wouldn't trust it. We had such issues on an XP system once (not ours ), the issue kept returning. My advice: new OS drive, test the problematic one as a 2nd backup drive. It is just a waste of time to deal with such issues.

Typically most hard drive will not survive (long term) if the computer takes a whack whilst running. Some drives can take the drives and drive readers (??) offline when not specifically acessing the drive surface.
This is why SSD in theory is more reliable than HDD.
But I'd do what Flexable says, buy a new drive ( not much more than $100), remove the old drive completely (with it's data). Reinstall Windows on the new drive. Hook the old HDD up again, transfer data that you want to say.
Try to reformat the old drive then run
a) demote it to non-critical data only
b) run tests to see if it is still undamaged.

My hd has 2 partitions.
1- OS
2- Files
I used Partition Magic to "steal" some from 2 to make 1 bigger.
Partition Magic crashed and I couldn't access 2(PQRP) no more.
1 was working perfectly.I re-installed XP(1) and 2 came back with everything working, not a single problem.
So it was only a partition problem(because of partition magic) and not a HD problem, I said "my HD now is called PQRP,
I can't access it anymore", but only a partition was called PQRP and not the whole HD.
What do you guys think about it?
Execute PTEDIT
Locate the PQRP. The type value of which will be 3C. (If the PQRP occurred on a logical partition, click on GoToEPBR to locate the correct partition.)
Click in the type field where the 3C is located.
Click on the Set Type button.
A list of available partition types will be displayed. Select the appropriate partition type. (NTFS if it was NTFS before etc.)
Save the changes and exit.
I re-installed XP(1) and 2 came back with everything working, not a single problem.
Yeah like I said, after re-installed xp, partition 2 came back, it wasn't PQRP anymore.

There are so many with the same problem but mine was fixed only by re-installing xp but it didn't work to all of them, that's why I said puters do "ghost" things behing our backs.
Now I don't know how it was fixed and can't help others, I can only say re-install OS.
IF the data is that critical, it's always best to not f*k around trying to fix a partition, but if you have room reinstall on a separate partition is ok.
Generally you try to never mess with partitions once setup initially. And then if you do want to change them, the correct protocol is to backup everything FIRST on a separate storage device.
Sounds like partition magic all right... Magically working becomes magically dead just as fast.
Get all those files off that thing. As was said, do not write to it. Booting an OS on it will write to it constantly...
Mount it as a non-boot drive, start copying the TB before going to bed, and let it run.
Look up an online backup service too. I'm considering Backblaze for their excellent Mac support. - you aren't backed up if the backups are still in the house/building...
I hope it works out. I'm looking forward to the exciting world of SSD's where I'm sure I'll get farked in some fascinating new way... :-)
