Ableton Out of Memory

I keep getting this annoying "out of memory" message and then ableton crashes.. I'm currently using Windows XP.. is this a shortage of RAM issue? I've got 6gb of ram, but I believe on 4gb can be active with windows XP?

I was thinking about upgrading to Windows 7... Would this upgrade be worth it, or will Ableton still crash and be out of memory? Also, will all my projects and plugins convert over and be recognized with the new operating system? Thanks

First, open task manager and check how much RAM is used just before it crashes. If it is close to 4 GB, it sure is the issue, even though it shouldn't crash.
Ableton has a 64 bit beta out, and most plugins are 64 bit or at least compatible. Do a little homework on the plugs and hardware you use to see whether they are compatible.
