Thread Starter | Is there ANY way for me to upgrade Final Cut Studio "Not For Resale?"
I have version 5.0.4 of Final Cut Studio. I received it as a gift but it's the "Not For Resale" version. I always thought that was just a technicality, it's the full software with the big box and all the manuals. But so far it seems that it's not eligible for ANY upgrades?!? I'd have to shell out another $1299 to get an upgrade to 5.1. Bad news. |

"I'd have to shell out another $1299 to get an upgrade to 5.1. " Ummm, you said it was a gift - therefore, you didn't shell out anything. The answer is obvious - Not for resale programs are not upgradable. And not to be used in a professional (for profit) environment. If I were you - i wouldnt even let Apple know you have an unauthorized copy ...

Bummer. Not all Not for Resale packages have the same restrictions, though; many "lite" or "LE" versions of software that come "free" with hardware are upgradable... otherwise there wouldn't be much advantage to the software publisher, since not only do they want people to check out their software -- they want people to get in the upgrade path and start spending money.

NFR copies are real copies of the software. You cannot upgrade most of them however. NFR's are usually given to reseller's to load the demo up and show it off in a retail store. or for the salesperson to become familiar with the product. just because it is NFR does not mean it's unauthorized. unless you got the "gift" from someone who also retains it loaded on their computer. I would just wait for a more important upgrade and try to get another NFR, don't try to get every single update. if you got the NFR in a legit way, ask apple for the upgrade, couldn't hurt to ask.

I've upgraded all of my NFR's by simply purchasing the upgrades at the upgrade price.
