| Apogee Ensemble w/ iPad, is it possible???
Hi all,
Please forgive me if I'm posting this question in the wrong section.
THE SCENARIO:
I have a small home-based project studio with no vocal booth and some mild sound treatment. I want to record vocals and pretty much have to do it late at night when most have gone to bed, but I still here a slight hiss from my iMac bleeding into the mic (U87). So I'm looking for a way to record vocals into my iPad which is pretty silent when operating, then export for further post work.
MY THOUGHTS
I recently ordered the iRig PRE from IK Multimedia and I'm about to purchase a DAW for the iPad to record. I know it will work but I got to thinking, after doing some quick research I found people using some of the lower end Apogee products (Duet & Duet 2) to record on the iPad.
That said, seeing as Apogee is well respected for their analog to digital converters, and seeing as I happen to have an Ensemble, I'm wondering if it's possible to use some sort of firewire to usb converter so I can go into the iPad via the camera connector, this way I get maximum quality.
Nothing against IK Multimedia. To be fair, I haven't even tried the iRig PRE yet, but I admit that my ears aren't developed enough to tell the difference. Anyway, just wanting to get some thoughts from the experts. Please be nice.
Thanks!
P.S. I just went to Apogee's sight and saw that they've just released the "Quartet" which is strictly usb, so maybe there wouldn't be a need to convert firewire to usb if I traded in my unit. Hmmm? Anyway, I don't want to assume it would work. Your thoughts please.
