That looks interesting I will deff demo it. Though I'm surprised no one mentioned it, and I don't quite trust steinberg. I have bad experience with it but I'll give it a shot. Who knows maybe I'll love it

Shoot! Has anyone tried the portico eq and compressor? I want to know if it's worth the tag or it's a hype

Portico EQ and Comp

No it isn't hype, they are outstanding plugins, IMHO the best. I have them besides Sonnox, Waves, Plugin Alliance, DMG AUdio and Fabfilter, and use them probably more than 95% of all my eq and dynamics needs. These are in the minority of plugins that really do sound like hardware. Price is high but you get what you pay for.

SSL X-EQ is nice, but I prefer Fabfilter Pro-Q to it for everyday work. Able to get where I'm going in terms of the sound I want/need faster.

It's very telling that no one can agree what the " best EQ " is...

Pro-Q's GUI is a big selling point...
i could never get past the colors of Pro-Q so i ended up passing on that one...
it is a good EQ, though...i give it credit for that...
i had been using EQuality but when EQuick came out i didn't even bother using EQuality anymore because it was "too much work" in comparison for similar results... > me for being lazy but whatever...

I was perfectly "happy" with what I was already using when I was introduced to Fabfilter in one of these threads. I demoed the Q, got a 10% off from another slut, and the rest is as they history. It's not my only EQ, and it certainly doesn't replace my go-to's for specific tasks (i.e. UAD Massive Passive in mastering, etc.), but it does get a lot of use.

In addition to great plugs (I have the L, Q, and C), I like how Fabfilter goes about things as well. When you purchase one, you'll automaticaly qualify for discounts on future purchases. They also allow/encourage users to send their "friends" a 10% off coupon to use towards the purchase of a plug. Not bad in my book.

BTW - anyone looking for the coupon hookup - PM me your e-mail address, and I'll shoot you a link. Full disclosure... Fabfilter gives a little something extra to users who share the coupon. My recommendation is however based on my belief in the value of the plugs, and NOT the nominal hookup from Fabfilter. Just sayin'

So equality/equick and proQ are about the same minus proQ adds a bit of color right? What about pro's and cons between the two?

i meant that i don't like the purple passion theme they got going on for the GUI...
it is transparent as far as sound is concerned...
the major differences in those EQ's are the features/options...

So what is one lacking over the other? Also can anyone tell me what does linear eq vs non linear mean. Is linear better then the latter? Why does it take so much more CPU power

These get used every session:
-Portico eq/comps (IMHO worth every penny)
-UAD Massive Passive (used to have the hardware and don't miss it anymore)
-Brainworx (SERIOUS problem solvers)
-PSP sQuad (the only one of these I don't get along with is the Classic Q, just not as good as the other ones IMO)
-Stillwell Vibe EQ (insane low end shelf)
These are free and get used often:
-Bootsie Baxter
-Sir Elliot Narrow Q (particularly good on snare), Paragraphic, 11 band and 18 band graphics
-J1000 PQ33 and MQ57
-Signaldust Dust EQ (just started messing with it and like it so far)
Hope this helps

It really depends on task,
for mixing I'd choose different EQ then for mastering,

I love all PSP plugins, the EQ kit is amazing,
then it's PSP Noble and PSP Neon HR
I also really like DMG Eqality, as it has very nice gui and rta analyzer comes very handy sometimes
when mixing, I like api 550 series, nice punch

Tried it and liked it but it's not something you would use all the time, great eq but I based my suggestions around something that I would use all the time

I really have to give Equality a good spin, read nothing but good things about it. I actually own the API bundle but since I won't wup it has gone away. Personally I think that the sQuad is much better YMMV and all that
