Interface suggestions/recommendations?

Looking around for a new audio interface for Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Pro Tools 10).

Budget: $1500+

I/O: 8/8 analogue in/out
Firewire 400/800 (preferred) or USB 2/3
Word Clock Sync In/Out
Midi In/Out
ADAT or S/PDIF - not a necessity

So far I'm torn between either Lynx Aurora 8, RME Fireface 800, or RME UFX.
The Prism Orpheus would be ideal but its probably a bit beyond my budget.

I'm also interested in just pairing a stand alone converter with a good set of pre-amps (eg: Lynx Aurora 8 + Daking Audio Mic Pre IV)

Any advice or suggestions from current or previous owners would be appreciated.

What about a babyface and a set of converters? Just another option.

I'm contemplating the very same thing - have you thought about the UA Apollo or the Metric Halo 2882? The 2882 is quite old now, but supposedly rock solid. The Apollo offers a lot for the price and I doubt the conversion quality has much difference in this price range.

RME UCX would fit the bill and be within budget.

out of those options I would certainly go with the Lynx

RME UFX is next on my gear list.

Best drivers. Said to be a great unit. Can't wait to grab it.

The UA Apollo would be good but it lacks midi. Decisions, decisions...

Why do you need MIDI in your interface? Most keyboards have USB and if they don't, you can get a really cheap MIDI to USB connector (I use that for my Yamaha digital piano). Having MIDI on your interface doesn't do anything different. IMO, shouldn't be the reason you skip out on an interface.

It would be handy to have within the audio interface I/O. But yes I can just get a cheap midi to USB interface.

On the other hand, there are plenty of great interfaces which include MIDI. So if you want it, is it not simpler to have it included? (Unless the Apollo is the only answer you'll consider.)
