Thread Starter | Expired Slate VTM demo crashing Pro Tools
Has anyone else experienced this?
I demoed Slate's VTM plugin on a song that I was working on. That demo has expired and I will not be purchasing the plugin. Now, when I open the session in Pro Tools, it scans the plugins, lets me know that Slate VTM is no longer authorized and says to hit cancel to open without the plugin. Every time I hit cancel, Pro Tools crashes.
I did remove Slate VTM from my computer (at least I think I did - I used Finder to find all files marked Slate VTM and deleted them) and had trashed all preferences but Pro Tools still wouldn't open the session.
Also, when I open up Izotope in standalone and it scans my plugins, it asks me for the authorization for VTM (which, of course, is just being scanned not even trying to be used) and sure enough, hitting cancel crashes izotope.
Luckily, Izotope is nice enough to ask me when I reopen it if I would like to mark the Slate VTM as "unsupported" since it crashed last time. I got around the the problem in Pro Tools by creating a new session and then importing the session data from the "hijacked" session in without plugins. Luckily, the session isn't in the mix phase so it's not a big deal to not have the other plugins.
Just giving others a heads up about this problem and seeing if someone else has experienced it.

Sounds like the VTM plugin is still in your plugin folder. Deleting it should fix the problem.

Hi there. This happens in Cubase 6.5.3 also. Try closing the pop-up rather than cancelling - you'll need to repeat for each instance of VTC. It's surprisingly poor behaviour

Really? So, it doesn't come up and tell you it can't find VTM and put the little !!!SlateVTM!!! I'm the plug slot?
Search your computer for the DLL and see if there are other folders...it can't give you a license error if it can't find the DLL to tell it to check license.
I'm on cubase...I don't remember if it crashed it...but, I know it acted really weird and didn't work correctly until I yanked the DLL file.

No, Cubase crashed before the project loaded so I never saw the "I can't find the plugin" message which is what I think the OP reported but in PT. Selecting Cancel from the error box crashes the project. Obviously once the project loaded after I series-closed the error boxes I didn't see it because I'd already manually moved the dll to a non-scanned backup folder.

That actually more proof that it's still there, man. If it crashes on start up, why is it you think it's the slate plug in? Because it started after it expired? Or after you uninstalled?
I still think its there. Else it's unrelated. I just dragged mine to the desktop. It's still sitting there...because I'm on the fence...I'd like to buy...but, anyway...
Have you posted on the Cubase forum? Seems like this should be looked at as a cubase startup troubleshooting. What's the last thing you see on the cubase startup before it crashes? How does it crash? Actual message? Hung process? BDOD?

I think it's the VTM because the error box was telling me that the VTM plugin had expired and that I need to buy it or cancel. If I cancel I crash. I removed the dll to a non-scanned folder and restarted Cubase. Same error message on restart so I Xed the error box, and got another one for the next instantiation of the plug in etc until I'd cleared all the slots. At this point the project opens with all of the VTM slots empty; not failing to find the plugin but empty. I haven't put this on the Cubase forum becasue I don't have a problem, I replied here because closing the error box instead of cancel/crashing the DAW may help someone else with the OP's problems in the future - especially if they have a project with substancial work done on it. I'll probably buy VTM when I have the spare cash. Link to post with error message |

I'm having this same problem in PT 10. Did anyone ever find a definite solution for this? I need to re-open these sessions....
Thnx.

Experienced the same thing myself today. Decided not to buy VTM due to the heavy CPU load.
When the demo expired I got the error message when opening a session.
Using PT 10 here, on Lion 10.7.5.
No uninstall folder in the VTM folder, and no option to close the error message box.
Opening a session while holding down "Shift" worked, though.

How about asking Slate for an extra day of demo time so you can get your sessions back? Just an idea....

Sounds like you need to actually buy the software you were using on your mixes ..
