Have a 9 series i7 ultrabook. FL STUDIO STILL LAGGING!

Hey guys I have just bought a samsung 9 series ultrabook. 900X4C-A01AU
8gb ram, 3rd gen i7 that clocks Upto 3.0GHZ and it's on a 128 gb sed

My FL STUDIO Projects lag though! I am running quite a lot of synths/romplers and effect plugins such as izotope and t racks

I have made the buffer settings as low as possible and it still crackles!!

I know I can improve it but I just don't know how! Helppppp!

Windows? Hit windows key, search power options, change from Balanced to High Performance. Same can be accessed from the battery icon on the task bar. Really terrible that it always defaults to balances. Even my desktop was set to balanced on windows install and it's not like power has to be saved there... I was having major DAW issues until I remembered to switch this, then they cleared right up. Plz let me know if this helps.

You hear crackling? You have your buffer set too low and/or your sample rate too high. A better interface could allow you to reduce your buffer without the crackle, but you may still have the lag because allot of effect plugins create their own buffer and FL Studio had Automatic Delay Compensation to keep all of your tracks in sync. You can turn ADC off, but your tracks will then be out of sync.

What interface are you using? If you're using the internal sound card, that's your problem.

I agree with ds11.

I just created a quick fix video of optimization settings for Windows 7. Take a look and let me know if that helps.

+1, good advice, but I would also check the BIOS of the Ultrabook, see if you can disable C1E support, Speedstep, then see how the system behaves. Disabling Speedstep will disable Turbo Boost, but it's a 3rd gen i7; you do not need it to Turbo Boost unless you're mocking up Pirates of The Caribbean 5 in FL or some such thing. Remember: Speedstep downthrottles the Front Side Bus when it sees fit, which will drastically decrease the performance of literally everything on the system. Speedstep is only nice to have when you're on battery, that's IT.

Also, check your overall latency of the system by downloading DPC Latency Checker here:

are you running the stock sound card? You need an external usb card or you have to install asio 4 all (free and works with existing onboard sound)...either of these options should clear up your problems

ok so i changed my settings and it changed a little bit. I am aiming to not use an external soundcard due to the level of portability i am after (my main studio is at home).

i re installed asio4all and its working alot better now for whatever reason! so its gotten better

my buffer length is as big as possible to prevent crackling

this collection of answers has definitely improved the speed!
thanks guys!

Are you using ozone 5? When I was using that for effects it would lag the hell out of it. I uninstalled then reinstalled it and everything was perfect
