Home Recording Equipment

Hi guys...

Since after almost 24 hours and over 200 views noone offered a word of advice... I'll try a slightly shorter version. If anyone is actually bothered, the original version is here.

Has anyone had any experience with 2 daisy chained Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2s running into a Macbook Pro? If so, what DAW did you use? Were there any issues? Is there anything (interface, computer or both) that anyone would use instead?

What opinions do people have on REAPER, ProTools, Reason, Cubase and Logic Pro? Any favourites? Any that should not be prodded with a 10ft stick?

Have any of you tried the Alesis Guitar- or MicLink? What are they like as far as sound quality and latency?

And finally, sampling. How can I trigger samples with my feet? Could I set up a Behringer FCB1010 with some software to trigger samples? What software could I use?

Thank you anyone who responds,
Harry

You might be better off asking each of your questions separately. It's usually more effective to ask specific questions.

For your last question, you could use any MIDI foot controller and something like Abelton Live

Thank you for your replies.

I will try to stick to individual questions in future then, thank you for the advice.

As for the sampling... Would I be able to do it in any way with Studio One Free or REAPER? They're all I have at the moment. (I haven't really used MIDI, so I haven't really worked out how it works yet. All I've used it for so far is connecting two keyboards together to get different voices and one output.) If I got, for example, a Behringer FCB1010, could I choose what note each button relates to? And is there any way I could create a VSTi instrument or something, with a few different samples each assigned to a different note? Kind of like VSTi drum kits/drum kit synths? That way I could set up the FCB's buttons to each play a different note, each therefore triggering a different sample from the instrument?

Thanks again,
Harry

Thank you, that website is brilliant! Loads of useful stuff. I hadn't been able to find anything about control surfaces before, which I think are probably the way forward (alongside daisy chained FireStudio Projects).

Thanks a lot,
Harry

I like Reaper a lot. It's powerful, flexible, and cheap. It's constantly being updated and the community/forum is top shelf.

Just don't fire it up and think that you can work the same way you did with your other DAW right off the bat. There might be a small learning curve, but that always happens when you switch to a new program.
