is the uad card still a viable option for eqs?

So apparently from what i've read on some forums people are going crazy about their new Neve 1073 eq and there are more coming.
but each card can only run 4 or 5 instances, the cards are aging, the new pci express cards that just released aren't any more powerful then the pci cards of 3 or 4 years ago.

Are the other plugins they have available pretty good? worth the 500 dollars for the card and then the 250 for the neve and whatever else i want? or should i just stick with getting the waves ssl bundle?

I've got the elemental audio bundle for my go to eqs right now and was going to pick up the urs but everyones saying these new ones smoke the urs plugs...

Anyone know about any future versions of the card..maybe a uad-2 in the near future i should hold out for?

UAD plugs have some excellent recreations of original analog gear (Pultec, LA-2A, 1176, you know the rest...) They don't do SSL, so you have to decide if you want the SSL or the Neve plug....

There is a non-upsampling version of the neve plug which runs many more instances. The only difference with the "light" version is that it doesn't upsample to 192. Most are saying they're saving the 192khz "full version" for the money tracks.

Based on talk over at the UA forums, I wouldn't hold your breath... (certainly nothing this year anyway)

hmm. thanks for the quick reply. as a student at an audio school i'm supposed to be able to get the waves ssl bundle for 500 bucks. if i can find it at that i'l pick them up but i'm notpaying the full 7 something when i'm paying another 80 bucks a year after that for wup...

But the way people have talked about the neve eq it sounds like what i've been looking for. that and i've always heard the pulltecs are great. how about that cambridge? The only 2 other plugs i've heard that i loved the "character" they impart is the SSL bundle and the urs A range of eqs.

I have good outboard eq's and I thought the Pultecs were amazing...worth the price of the card in fact, to me. The Cambridge didn't do much for me. Probably useful, but just kinda blah. The highs and lows of the pultec are magical.

I don't have the Cambridge, but the included EX-1 eq sounds very nice. (I like it a lot!) Some have compared it to the Cambridge in sound, but just less flexible/fewer filter options and no nice graphic UI. Very usable workhorse EQ. (edit: sorry, I should add the Cambridge and EX-1 are not meant to add character as you seem to be looking for)

The Pultecs do sound great! The 1176 plug is another "color" plug people say is worth the price of the card as well.

Good luck with your decision!

actually another idea i just had was to throw the se version of the neves on all my tracks and get the mix going really well and then copy and save the settings and basically do an offline process of each track with the nicer upsampling version...

that does work with these cards like they do with other waves or any other audiosuite for that matter in protools right?

Now wheres the cheapest place for the card?

Do the UAD-1 plugs show up in the audiosuite menu in PTLE?????

I always just assumed they wouldn't because they're not rtas.

Could someone fill me in on this one.

Thanks in advance

I do really love the UAD plugins. I have not yet tried the Neve emulation, but I am leary of the light versions. The 1176SE I have found to be completely useless. If the 1073SE is anywhere near as bad as the 1176SE, I will never use it.

So for me it's the full version plugins only and I find them well worth the price, even though the cards are well outdated, still worth it.

The light 1073 plug is almost as amazing as the full one. Bout 95% in fact.
