Saffire Pro 24 terrible noise only when recording DAW

Hi guys, I've got this issue. I've got a Saffire pro 24 DSP and a Condenser MIC, using a desktop PC (Windows XP). A really cheap computer (I've got a blasting new one but couldn't make saffire pro work with W7 Ultimate 64bit, but thats an other topic).

Important Part: When singing through the MIC or playing an instrument without recording on my DAW (sonar) everything goes fine at any level on input and output for my headphones (I know I get the normal 'ambience noise' sound when cranking it up to 10). But when I have to monitor through the DAW it starts with 10 seconds of normal sound and then starts this horrible noise. So it records with that noise.

Not sure what can it be, I have a pci to firewire card with the correct TI chipset.

I've recorded something so you can hear exactly how it goes: Saffire Pro 24 DSP DAW noise by marcosgriselli on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

I remember you, I have no trouble when monitoring through MixControl or when playing an audio file. Is only when monitoring/recording in DAW

Extra Info: there's nothing wrong in my cables/mic/intruments or interface inputs. I've tried diferent cables with different instruments on every input of the interface and same results.

thanks

Man, that's annoying. Everything kosher in the audio device settings in your DAW? The only time I've gotten a noise like that is when I've left something awry in my device setup. But I'm not familiar with Sonar...

Does the same thing happen with other DAWs?
Does it happen when you run any audio between the PC and Saffire with no DAW open? (playing an mp3 on Winamp or something?) I.e., is it only clean when the PC is totally kept out of the chain?

Not that I have a clue what the issue is, but those are tests I would do...

I had the same symptom with a Zed r16. My problem was caused by the fw chain. I had a fw800 disk first in chain then a 400. My desk/sound car was connected to the last. When recording to the 800 it sounded exactly like on your example. I removed the 800 from the chain and recorded to the 400 and everything was ok again.

Hope this helps.
Cheers

Sometimes my saffir 6 does something similar. I just disconnect and plug the interface back in and it stops. Super annoying doesnt happen too often though.

With regard to Win7, did you try the new MixControl?

Hey guys thanks for the replys. I get no noise when playing a mp3 file or when muy sound goes directly trough the Saffire Pro its only when recording/monitoring. I've tried another DAW (FL Studio) and got the same noise. I don't have any other FW devices so theres nothing interrupting audio.

With regards W7 don't even bother I've tried absolutly everything and can't get it recognized. Il get some audio technician to try find a solution.

So by now I'm focusing on XP to try and have some fun
