Melodyne and Auto-tune

Hi

Just my experience:
I have been using Melodyne 2.6 for the last year. I´ve used it on many albums. But there are some things that have been bothering me about it.

It doesn´t always detect the notes right. And then it becomes very hard to pitch them. Besides, it introduces artifacts, clicks, when it tries to play the wrongly detected notes. So often I have had to copy from the original take unaltered notes to get rid of the clicks.

It´s so easy to flatten the vibratos that you can squeeze the life out of a performance without really noticing it. (That´s of course not a bad thing, to be able to do it, it´s only a bad thing if you do)

So I turned back to Auto-tune last week and a was pretty amazed by the sound quality. And the real-time option is wonderful.

But I´ve been told that Melodyne 3.0 is much better than the old one so I´m going to check that one out. And now they even have 3.1!

My Melodyne is resting on the shelf. I won't even sell it, that would make me feel guilty.

Auto-Tune is a better tool in my opnion, and my preferred choice when it comes to pitch correction.

Yeah, There is one more thing. I´ve seen Melodyne used as a quantize device. It appeared to be so amazingly simple and quick to quantize multiple tracks of drums or piano or anything you´d want to put in its place, so that would be another reason to try it out.

thanks for the response, guys..

I had experienced similar problems with versions prior to Melodyne 3, but since I've been using 3 I've had not one single artifact, it's worked as it should have and is an amazing piece of software. Autotune is also good and a lot easier and quicker to use..
