Abbey Road Drummer updates... overwrites previous settings?

Hi

I have NI Abbey Road 60s & 80s drums, and also Studio Drummer. I have Kontakt 5.

I have the 'old' 60s/80s drums, without the 'grooves' and other stuff. I never liked Studio Drummer much, and it uses even more CPU.

I haven't updated my 60s/80s drums as they work OK and i don't want to potentially 'corrupt' my old projects and also the FX and routing in studio drummer makes it even more cpu hungry.

But i'm curious about the new stuff.

If i install, can i still get the exact same settings/view/cpu efficiency as it currently is, or should i leave well alone? Are the old 1.1 presets there?

I'm about to do a clean OS install on an SSD so want to know if i should install the old versions which i like (and like the simplicity of) or just update to the latest versions, and stop being silly.

Thanks

Ed

Hi

I have the NI 60s, 70s, 80s, Modern, and Studio 'Drums' & 'Drummer' software.
I run them in Kontakt 5 Player as I don't own the full version of Kontakt.

The newer, 'drummer' versions install alongside the older 'drums' versions, so the new ones don't replace the old.

In my experience, the newer 'drummer' instruments with the grooves run more efficiently than the other, 'drums' versions.

So if your experience is like mine, the new ones should be easier on your computer.

Cheers
J

Hey, thanks so much for that!

I went ahead and installed the updates - is it normal that the samples are also installed again?

Does anyone know a way of safely making it so that i'm not wasting double the space for no reason? Assuming they're the same, of course.

Thanks!

Ed

Pls note though that in "Modern Drummer" you are apparently unable to save your own mapping presets, which in my case, makes this utterly worthless seeing that I need to map it to my DTX900. In the old "drums" series you could.

Good info, thank you.

In trying out the new drums, i honestly think the old versions are less complicated, better laid out, and overall just cooler. I still don't like the mixer section and effects.

Some of the drum grooves sound cool, some do not, but either way i don't think i want to go down that road of 'sounding like everyone else'.

Cheers
