Track16 vs Duet2 vs Scarlett 18i6 vs Babyface!

Hi guys,

I'm in the process to upgrade from my Mbox 2 Pro and am considering the Motu Track16, Apogee Duet 2, Focusrite 18i6 and RME Babyface.

I'm trying to understand wich one of these has the best converters AD/DA and mic pres, but can't find the way.

I'd like to have as much analog outputs as possible, but 4 would probably be fine too.

I'd like to have more than 2 simultaneous inputs, but just to not be restricted in case I need to record more than one instrument at the time.
Although, realistically, I'll much probably record just one track at the time.

I want it to be portable and the price range I wanna stay in is around $500-550 max.

I have the feeling that the Motu Track16 is the one that gives me all I want, but I wanna be sure about the quality of the converters and pres.

Thank you very much for your precious inputs!

I'm going through a similar debate right now. I've heard great things about the Duet 2's preamps but the Track 16 is very full-featured... I just haven't found any reviews on it yet that talk about the quality of sound through it, which is my primary concern.

My user review is on page 5 here: MOTUNATION • View topic - New Product: MOTU Track 16

To restate, to my ears, the sonic differences between the Track 16, and Ensemble were subtle, not dramatic.

The amount of I/O in a small foot print is pretty impressive.

Thanks Cseye,
Your review was very interesting!
Would you feel to suggest to get a Track16 over an Apogee Duet 2 re overall sound quality at all, or the two are pretty similar?

I love the features of the Track16 vs Duet 2 and unless I find a used Babyface at a lower price, I'd go for one of these two.

I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other. It's a matter of what sounds good to you, and your budget given the intended use.
