Macbook Pro 2012 + Roland Octa-capture

Hi everyone:

Long time musician, looking to get into the recording game.

Planning on spending a few dollars on some quality equipment.

Considering the new Macbook Pro. Not gonna be cheap! My concern is regarding my choice of audio interface.

I'd like to be able to record a full band. For this reason, the Roland Octa-Capture seemed like a good and affordable choice.

I have seen concerns about the compatibility of the USB 2.0 device with USB 3.0 ports. Any thoughts?

Also willing to accept recommendations about other interface, MIDI keyboard controllers, and mixing monitors. Haha.

Thanks,

Liam

Hi Liam, It's a long time you posted this thread. But I was wondering if you got to buy the MacBookPro 2012 and the Octa -Capture and had any issues. Any news on your strugle?
I wrote to Roland customer support..this is the e-mail sent and answered:

RE: Support Request #99531

Product: OCTA-CAPTURE

Subject: Mac & USB

Question: Hi, I own an octa-capture that i use on both a laptop and desktop PCs running Windows 7. I make heavy multitrack recording, mixing and editing without any issues

A month ago I started co-working with a major studio that has all setup based on Mac Pro and iMacs running MacOS X snow leopard 10.6, all running ProTools 9 HD. My plan is to get a MacBook Pro and start working with Mac and ProTools 9

Since new MacBooks Pro 2012 ship with MacOS Mountain Lion and only have USB 3.0 my concern is about how does the Octa-Capture works with MountainLion...and USB 3.0. I read about customers who can't get octa-capture to work on USB 3.0. Are you working on firmware that will fix this? Please let me know! Thansks in advance.

ROLAND ANSWER:

Hello Bruno,

The OCTA-CAPTURE will work, and is compatible, with USB 3.0 ports. You can download Mac OSX 10.8 drivers here:

OCTA-CAPTURE :: Downloads :: Support :: Roland

If you have any problems with your OCTA-CAPTURE, please let us know and we will be happy to troubleshoot your setup--if a problem does arise.

We hope this is helpful.

Sincerely,
