Latency issues ASIO

Hello,
I have been dealing with some latency and performance issues. I have been using Nuendo 4 and a Presonus Firestudio Mobile. MY PC has the following specs:
Proc: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80 ghz
RAM: 4 gigs
OS: Windows 7 64 bit

When I open the Nuendo ASIO panel the lowest I can set both input and output is 512. If I attempt to type a number lower then this it just goes back to 512. It defaults at over 2k (?!). On the Presonus I can set it as low as 64. No matter how low or high I set the Nuendo ASIO I get massive pops and skips and a few minutes in the sound simply degrades to a bunch of static. I switched to Cubase 5 and it does the same thing. I then purchased an M-Audio Profire 610 interface thinking maybe it was the Presonus unit, but alas, I have the same result. If I open a new project and keep it under five minutes with no more than 4 tracks and no plug ins, I can get it to run ok, but it still skips every now and then. Obviously this is not a solution.
Please help!

Have you tried 1394 legacy driver?

In some cases, legacy driver for FW works better.
You can change from Device manager.

Downloading the correct driver isn't the same as selecting it. If you go to the VST Audio System panel in Device setup, there are usually several options for ASIO drivers. You have to make sure that you are using the ASIO driver for your unit. It sounds like you are using the ASIO DirectX full duplex driver, which will cause that kind of latency...

I have the exact same setup as you running Reaper4.25 - Reaper single trip latency using 44.1 or 48 24bit at 32 buffer is 0.07ms.
Same figures using the WASAPI driver.

And apparently there is a rumour going round that even the Windows Dreadful Mess drivers are now capable of ultra low latency using Reaper at 48/24.
Planning on trying that out on the next new "in house" project I start.
