Moving system drive between mac pros

I could use a little help with a question I suspect I know the answer to.

I've got to go to Canada next week to start a record. Unfortunately my work visa hasn't been processed in time, which means i can't really take any gear with me as it really doesn't look like you're on holiday if you've a rack of gear!

All fine but I would really like my mac pro as it has endless bits of strange software on it.

My question is: Can I simply take the system drive out and put it in a new machine in Canada and use it as if it were my computer or does the software recognise specific machines? I would say the majority of my software is not on a dongle.

Any help appreciated!

Tom
