Software for encoding surround in Dolby AC-3 format

Hi slutz,
what is the best solution for encoding 5.1 surround sound in Dolby AC-3 format ? There are a couple of software solutions out there, PT plugins included. But what is the best ? Please report your experiences !

Thanks,
Bill

Usually they're Dolby licensed, so I think there are no or little differences in the actual encoding.

But there is definately a difference in ease of use.

I think the Neyrick plugin for PT is the most versatile and handy to use. I've tried the demo. I'd give this a try if I were you.

It's not purchased yet because we also have Final Cut Pro which has an app called compressor which can also make AC-3's which also works fine, so there's no need for the plugin yet, but it's very elegant in use and the most handy thing is you can make punch-in in the AC-3 if you change something in your mix.

Thanks Geert, that´s the info I needed. The punch in feature can be a real time safer !
I´ll demo the Neyrick plug in.

Do you by chance know what difference it makes in the encoding stage to encode in Dolby E standard ? Because that´s what the customer requested. I know the definition of Dolby E is, I just don´t know how to accomplish that in encoding.

Thanks anyway,
Bill

As far as I know there is currently no other option than using hardware solutions for Dolby-E encoding such as those Dolby manufacture themselves.

I think Neyrinck just released a Dolby E encoder.
Expensive stuff, thou.

Edit: wow, I've just realized how old this thread was... well, anyway it may be useful.
