Thread Starter | LOGIC:Hardware Insert on Master fader (w/ I/O plug) workaround?
Sup, I have been trying to figure out a good way to insert Hardware processors on the master fader of Logic. You would think... Instantiate a I/O plug on the master fader, patch your inputs and outputs acording to your IO scheme and thats it... well there is a bug with inserting plug IO on the master fader, it will only send audio out and will NOT return it to the monitors or bounce. This has been around for a while and does not look like it will be fixed any time soon. So I could change all of my channels (instruments, auxs, audio ch.s, etc.) to that set of IO and then bounce from there, but that is a pain in th ass and I hate the idea of changing the routing of all chanels just to do a ruff mix real quick. So what is next... well I could create a AUX track and route out of the IO plug on the master fader and return it to the Aux track, but it still will not play and is also not very streamlined due to the way logic create new auxes (by only letting you creating the next aux and not any aux you would like). becuase Logic does this, it will screw up a few things.. for instance, if I have 8 mono auxes, the stereo auxes will only show 1-2 and 3-4. If I select 3-4 it then copies over my mono aux 3 and 4 settings and creates a stereo blank aux. That little "next aux" thing is ****ing stupid, I am sure that it is just to save DSP, but there must a a way to link to say aux 16 with out actually including all 16 auxes in the environment until they are selected. enough about that.. Can anyone think of an elegant way of using outboard on a rough mix with out going through the whole mess of cycling through auxes until I get a stereo unused pair? I want to go out in and then monitor it just like I always do. I have plenty of channels so this should not be an issues.. Logic slutz to the rescue? I am sure I am just missing something... so please fill it in. |

not really sure what you meant by the "next aux" thing... perhaps you tried experimenting with "Universal Track Mode"? to answer your initial question, why not run all your mix thru a pair of Aux (or Bus), apply the master plugs there, use I/O to run Output only. then after it travels thru your hardware, return into Input of 2 Audio Tracks, record it there. it's the same idea as real-time bounce.. but in some ways better/safer, cuz i've had some times when bounces in Logic didn't work well. mostly Offline Bounce, but real-time works usually. then just drag the audio files out of Logic. you can Bounce via stereo or dual mono. if dual mono, put'em back together with Peak or similar programs. if you want to keep it latency free (or as close to it possible), use "Latency Fixer" by Expert Sleepers.

Naw, thanks, that article was what I was looking for. Its just a matter of logic not realizing it has an input unless there is a in put channel. Weird, but that is it.
