The best Guitar Processor Plug-in ?

I'm looking for the best guitar processor plug-in/

I hear guitar rig is really good.
I have a pod six/ but need somthing good in the box /(or out the box) for processing guitar tracks in pro-tools

I always record my guitars through a fender twin reverb and stomp boxes etc. I also record a clean take as well for processing after the fact.
Anyone have any ideas?

Sansamp PSA1 for me. Or recording a straight DI'd guitar then reamping through a Vox Tonelab.

It's FREE. If you like chugging metal this blows everything else away... I have tried them all. Sounds a bit like early metallica to my ears... much more realistic tone than other sims that sound 'plastic' to my ears.

Check out Izotope Trash.
Great price and lots of flexibility.

You don't have a POD XT Pro. You could consider that. You can send (or insert) and return without going through an A/D or D/A reconversion. That's what I'd recommend.
I really don't see the thrill in Amplitube 2. Guitar Suite is great for the price, but it really doesn't get near what you can get with GR2. (Make sure you evaluate it in high resolution setting.) I don't like distortion on any of these sims, but it does pretty good otherwise.
Try them out. (Don't just go with the presets.) Put an amp in, add a cab, add an effect, mess around, etc.
Then get yourself a used XT Pro. My problem with GR2 is that you probably pay a bit for that ridiculous pedal control they make you buy with it. You don't have to use it, though--it is not a dongle. I still will often time prefer what I can get with GR2. It does not sound as thin as the POD. The POD seems to do better with simulating an amp within a room.

i know you need one for PT, but for anybody else lookin', i recommend the Guitar Amp Pro in Logic.

i've been playing guitar for 14 years. i've gone thru a good amount of pedals and amps, both new and vintage.

i really wanted to hate the GMP. i really did. i simply didn't think a computer simulator can come close to great guitar tones.

what originally was meant to be scratch or ideas, later turned more useful than actually recorded guitar amps. not to mention easiness of use.

that's why i'm selling my '70s Vibrolux as well as my precious pedals i collected over the years. i now just DI a guitar in (choice makes a difference), and tailor the sound in GMP.

fwiw, i still use an amp occasionally for important stuff, like lead work; but just sharing a positive experience. i've also used NI Guitar Rig (or whatever the name is), sounded too plastic-y for me.

I have Trash and GR2. I find myself going for GR2 almost everytime. If you are recording a band with a "so/so" guitar amp or you have a so/so room guitar rig is GREAT to layer over a mic'd amp. It really fills in the sound while still keeping a "live" sound. I layer it all the time.

Different tones for different mixes. I mostly use UAD Nigel and Sansamp. These are my favorite...

if you've got Logic Pro try the guitar amp plug in it's very very good, better than the pod which I've been using up to now.

if you can't mic a cabinet, get a sansamp.. and if you can't get a sansamp, try simulanalog or juicy77 (free): http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2010.html

also, try combining different plugs (like the simulanalog amp with fx from trash, etc). better than guitarrig/amplitube/gtr, imo. good luck

Actually I really like the guitar amp in logic all the time, the problem is that I plan to mix in pro-tools. what I will probably do is treat some guitars in logic and import into pro-tools for the mix.

oh another cool thing are cab impulse responses (noisevault.com), i use them with simulanalog guitar suite, also i like to use UADīs Nigel cab simulations and other fx with GS.

Anyway Amplitube 2 has a fully functional demo working for 14 days.

I know nothing beats a jcm 800 and a closed 4x12, the problem is printing it to tape... then mics, board, room and knowlledge are part of the equation... anyway i think that even the most seasoned engineer would appreciate those software emulations.

I don't have Logic myself tho' play with it in the studio of a friend of mine and being a guitarist I must say that I do like Logic's guitar amp a lot. Defenitely much better then the POD, but I personally like it also better then GuitarRig and Amplitube, but that's just me...

- Junior,

You must be the WillBellJr I've seen on Eovia3D, surely. I couldn't miss that cool avatar.

I have a vintage Fender Twin so I'n judging these against that.

I've tried loads of these effects.

I agree about these:

http://www.simulanalog.org/guitarsuite.htm

Very good and free. I'd say with these around it's not necessary to spend too much money.

I do use Logic so I use Guitar Amp Pro which is fantastic. That's Mac though and the GSuite is Windows. However the GSuite runs perfectly with the VST-RTAS adapter on Windows. This adapter is a must have. Opening all sorts of plugins that you wouldn't otherwise have access to. I don't use Protools anymore but that's not because I don't like it, I just prefer to stick with Logic. All the instruments and effects in Logic are very good.

My vote goes to Guitar Rig 2. Izotope Trash is second. I haven't tried the newest AmpliTube yet, so I can comment there.

I like Guitar Rig 2 for it's diversity, but Logic's Guitar Amp Pro seems to get better meat and potatoes kind of sounds. At least for metal anyway. You can get a decent metal patch out of Guitar Rig 2 but it takes a while. I now have some G.R.2 presets that I like. Where as Logic's presets sound great out of the box with little tweaking.

G.R.2 is untouchable for synthy type guitar effects though.

Scarbee's VKFX is really cool for guitar as well as vintage keys. Definitely no metal though. Some really nice vintage tones with a great interface. It always seems to satisfy.

Simulanalog Guitar suite Has the ONLY emulation that cannot be spotted as fake... too bad is just the JCM800, but it's really a convincing emulation...
When it comes to Hi gain distorted stuf pretty much everything suck exept Simulanalog...
Now, I did not try Amplitube 2 and to my knowledge the Italian guy involved in simulanalog played a major role in Amplitube 2 (it's an italian company) so if any, i'd try this first...
other than that, voxengo boogex has quite a few convincing sound, but i use it for bass with bass capinet impulses (is a convolution processsor)

I've found that non simulator is suitable for Wall of sound Distorted guitar, but for some layered clean, some solos and harmony part tha need a ditinctive sound... stuf like POD is quiite convincing...

I feel Guitar rig has the best Guitar effect section but not that great in amp simulation...

I have clients who record Drums in my studio, than they record guitar at home with a Simulator (GR mostly) that thay come back to the studio for REAmping with real amps and mixdown, it's a really productive workflow....

1 Guy does it ALL!?!

(@Rufuss Sewell)

How's that:
The SimulAnalog Guy has developed the above mentioned Scarbee Vintage FX!

After that co-developing AT2!

I cannot believe it: 1 single Person writing the codec for the most respected Softwares?

What's next I wonder ...
