I use a macbook pro (2009) for recording. My projects rely more on reading and writing audio files and sample playback than plugins and VSTs. So I'm thinking of sticking an SSD in my MBP to ease things along but am unsure which is the best option for my drive configuration.
I want to remain as portable as possible without having to lug around external drives if possible and so, as I understand it, I have a three options:
- I can leave the spinning disc on OS duties and replace the optical drive with the SSD for my sample libraries and recording audio to.
- I can replace the HD with an SSD of equal size. OS, app, audio, samples all on the same SSD.
- I can install a small SSD for OS and apps and move the HD to the optical drive bay.
Can't personally see the benefit in the final bullet. Any ideas on which is best?
