Tutorial - getting automation from Arrange to Session

Tutorial on how to get automation from Arrange View to Session View in Ableton Live, so you can work on the song in a non-linear way or play it live.

Includes 45 second video showing the 12 second process involved.

This is not truly copying the automation. That automation in the Arrange View (clip automation) is automating a PERCENTAGE of the value that the parameter is at, whereas in the Arrange view it is automating the actual value. So doing this you'll have to do a lot more adjusting... Many people asking for clip automation are aware of the automating the percentage feature but what it to work as it should... be able to copy over TRUE automation of the actual value to clips.

No problem. They'll get it on the next upgrade. Probably...

Takes 12 seconds, sounds exactly the same. I know it's not what people want Ableton to implement, but it's the best workaround. The main problem with it is you have to adjust all the other clips, I need to make that clear in my tutorial come to think of it.

The problem is it doesn't sound exactly the same sir. In clip automation is PERCENTAGE. The top is 100% and the bottom is 0%. So if you're automating the filter cutoff the range of the filter will be completely different depending on where the cutoff is on the VSTi (in the session view). Though it will behave similarly of course.. it's still not the same and this is the reason people are complaining about this lack of functionality FYI.

In the tutorial I explain that you have to turn the knob to 100% for it to sound exactly the same.
