PC Backup questions

I need to create a new backup solution for my audio and video computers.

I've got a Drobo, but my software has failed on me- I had a custom script designed that was really simple- It copied everything over from my audio and video drives (2 different computers) to the Drobo. There was a comparison done between the two and if something was missing from the audio/video drive, it moved the corresponding file on the Drobo to a "trash" folder where I could manually trash it.

This originally saved my butt when a drive crashed and the next sync moved everything to the trash folder whereas a traditional sync would have deleted the data.

Are there any commercial programs that I can set up to do a similar process? There are lots that will do a full drive image and lots that will sync, but I haven't seen much about sync with options to avoid data loss in a catastrophic event. We're talking multiple terabytes of data here - I could use some help. Thoughts?

I've been using this backup/synchronizing software for >10years, and it has "move files to trash if possible" option that works with synchronization mode.

kish Designs :: CopyTo Synchronizer :: Synchronize and back up your files

The question is, whether the software can move files on NAS drive to trash (which is a property of local drive) or not.

This software went completely freeware, and the writer seems like stop developing. I used to asked him for additional features, and he was very good at incorporating user requests.

Try Handy Backup 7, it's a reliable software for audio and video backup.

Ben, look into SyncBack Backup Software by 2BrightSparks. The feature you are wanting (not simply deleting files) is in Syncback called versioning. Been using this app for years on multi TB archives and backups, never ever had a problem. Very featured & customizable.

A few years ago Nero Backup (part of the Nero Burning Rom CD/DVD-burning suite) was one of the very few among 10-20 backup programs for Windows in a review by respected german computer mag CT that got good grades.

I recommend you google "backup software review" ...
