Question Digi 001 Preamp, Condenser Mic, No Sound Question???

I'm either an idiot or unlucky... my guess is idiot,
I just bought an MXL 990/991 condenser mic set to do some simple recording on my 001. The manufacturer states that the mics need 48V phantom power +/- 4V in order to function...no duh right? Well, I plugged straight into my 001 on mic line 1, turned on the phantom power, set my inputs and outputs, record enabled the track, and I am getting no signal that the mic is being picked up. Is there an issue with the 001 preamps? Should I buy a seperate preamp? Or is there a certain type of configuration that needs to be in place, as this is my first time using a condenser mic?
Thankyou for your time.

On the digi 002 there's a switch to choose between line in and mic input. Maybe also on your unit (which i'm not famliar with) ?

It should work.
