So, Liv Tyler is The Glue? Or Liv Tyler is just Liv Tyler?

I personally like Liv WAY better

Ok, seriously. I vote for the BussPressor and I can explain you why:

When I demoed the Glue I did like it and I know it gets tons of love (which I understand). It did have that nice snap/pop/tick-y thing but for my taste I missed some sort of vibe.

I was very close to buying it but in the end didn't.

The PSP is pretty similar in what it does but to my ears has a bit more color, which clicks more with me. Maybe the Glue has a bit more "tick" in its attack but still, I like the BP more.

Maybe I am biased, since I love many of PSP's plugins...I just value their work a lot.

Maybe Katy Perry has a nicer ass, but Liv Tyler is just my choice when looking at the woman entirely

Quoting from a thread from a few days ago - key point seems to be PSP's version is indeed more "rougher" than other vca clones, by which i take to mean coloured.... in case useful

Email from PSP:

Dear user,

After releasing the PSP BussPressor we became aware that there is some confusion regarding the differences between our various dynamics processor plug-ins. In this short email we would like to explain the main differences.

All of PSP dynamic processors are based on unique algorithms. They do not share characteristics except for the FAT double sampling used in the PSP VintageWarmer and the PSP MasterComp. Each PSP compressor/limiter plug-in represents a different approach to dynamic processing.

The PSP BussPressor is based on the character of the SSL BusCompressor but we tuned our plug-in to be slightly rougher when compared to some other VCA plug-in clones. In our opinion when used aggressively the PSP BussPressor is highly suitable for rock music. In the Auto mode the character changes and the plug-in can be used to add a smooth "gluing" effect. Another benefit of the BussPressor is its parallel compression mode but don't forget it also offers a high pass side chain filter useful for reducing kick drum pumping and an adjustable Auto release mode.

The PSP oldTimer is a bit "pillowish" compared to the PSP BussPressor. Although it will not provide the roughness of the PSP BussPressor it is a very versatile compressor, suitable for individual tracks, groups and master busses. It distinctly glues the audio together whenever used and it sounds especially good with (but is not limited to in any way) all acoustic instruments, vocals and entire recordings including jazz and even classical music. PSP oldTImer can be very useful on main tracks in the Mix and whenever a sweet polishing might do the job.

The PSP MasterComp is a compressor designed with transparency in mind. We mainly focused on low distortion when designing the algorithm and then we added special features to control the stereophony and channel linking. The result is a very smooth response suitable for all situations when coloration is not desired.

The PSP MixPressor (included in the PSP MixPack bundle) is a basic compressor created with track processing in mind but also able to process a group. Even though the PSP MixPressor algorithm is simple compared to our other compressors it still offers plenty of controls which combined with its range of compression curves make this plug-in unique and versatile.

The PSP VintageWarmer is a kind of special brick wall limiter plug-in. Although it can be set for a long release time its response is always usual for limiters. The only way to get transients thru is to use Warmer's Mix feature to get parallel processing. Using the knee and timing settings carefully a nice density can be achieved from a track.

Stephen tyler drives the world's fastest lotus - do you care - I do Hennessey Venom GT Spider Delivery to Steven Tyler [Photo Gallery] - autoevolution it's engine is a litle bit bigger than my K series (for the moment)

Edit - oh, er, PSP every time - people have just stopped talking about Vintagewarmer because they just use it all the time and it's 'glued' to the 2 bus

Wow. Did u see underneath that hood? That Steven did something right in his life?

Are u saying that u actually use the Vintage Warmer on your stereo bus? U are braver than me my friend.

Yeah, you know, I went off it for a while because I thought it made things (here we go) a tad 'grainy', but then I used subtle settings and for the demos I produce it always adds a weighty sound that I need for quick tinkering to feel the inspiration as I write. I have to say, I'm not subtle with compression though, on the last demo I did last night, I had the VM2 followed by 2 other compressors to really get the track pumping. Mastering engineers would hate me, but it sounds pretty good

As to under Stephen's hood - it's a place I would like to visit in the most most platonic petrol-head way possible What a car!

No doubt. If it feels good, it's right. Especially if u put something on early on in production. If u take it off the song will fall apart. As a guy that does a lot of mastering also I can tell u that I would definitely not hate u. I think most MEs are looking for a balanced mix (& great tone) so we can just enhance & not have to wrench on it too much or have to pull out big guns or even worse...perform miracles. I love VM2 on stuff in a mix but never had the balls to put it on stereo bus. I will try it tho. I sometimes use Sound Toys Decapitator or Devil-Loc so Vintage Warmer is not too far fetched. I predict good results. That's Stephen's a lucky bastard.

I've been spending some time with the PSP, comparing it to The Glue and for the way I mix I prefer the Glue. I tend to put my "color" plugins and hardware on channel inserts and keep my master buss fairly clean (though I still use VCC on the master). If I wanted more color on my master I might prefer the PSP. If I needed another drum bus comp I might like it there but I'm pretty happy with what I have.

The PSP is an excellent plugin but it doesn't give me anything that I don't already have. <shrug>
