Sorry - Another Macbook vs Macbook Pro Thread

Hi guys,

The reason I'm asking for advice on the choice of Macbook / Macbook Pro is that I'm hoping to be using it for a different purpose:

I'm in a new wave band and want to replace our HD playback machine (an old Fostex 8 track) for some back tracks and samples, as well as being able to take some good virtual synths on the road, ie some of the Arturia synths.

So it's a mixture of playback and live software synth I need - also being a musician working towards a record deal I'm near enough skint! Could I get away with a Macbook or should I really wait a few more months and get the Macbook Pro?

Any advice (or donors!!!) would be most welcome!

Thanks, David

My oppinion is that the most significant difference between the models (at least the 2ghz one) is screen size and graphic card.

Personally I don“t think that the graphic card matters much if your not using the computer for graphic or video work or perhaps gaming.

Regarding the screensize you could use a 2:nd monitor at home with the macbook to compensate for the size, but I think that the resolution is pretty high in relation to the size.

Just my thought on it.

can you connect a second monitor to a macbook and have a different screen content?
older ibooks were just able to mirror the laptop screen to a second monitor

The limitation to just mirror the content has been removed as far as I understand it.. Everyone used to hack it anyway

I have the 15" Pro, and it took about 5 seconds to plug in a second monitor and set it to dual-display. Nice & easy...

I just picked up the little $19 mini-DVI to VGA adapter from the Apple Store this week to use with my Macbook. Extended desk-top mode works fine, fader view on the 13.3" screen and the editor open on the 19".
