Oh and complaining about the possiblity of having themes in the first place, and having to look for them... remind me of how many DAWs actually allow theming ? | Most themes also include menu items that need to be installed and extensions that need to be installed as well to work properly. If it were a simple drag and drop I wouldn't have mentioned it.

If you want to tweak, you have to be a bit of a tweaker.

NOTE: these issues started at 4.22 and continued into 4.25, NOTHING has changed on my SYSTEM except the REAPER version. It was SOLID on 4.21 which is what I just went back to and things seem OK for now. I also, re-installed all my WAVES and my MR816X Audio Driver. Repaired permissions etc.
The other DAWS Im using aren't crashing like this!!. However, when its running fine its a great app??. Its either working or it isn't. If its not and Im trying to record and the app keeps crashing then its a POS, simple as that.
Short sightedness does come into play when you can't work.
Im really trying to give this app a go at it to be honest. I think I may get your videos and learn a bit. I have been using REAPER for live recording with no issues for the last 1.5 years.

Those guys are usually super quick to help.
Is it really that horrible to have to use 4.21 when the newest version is 4.25?
I'm still stuck on Pro Tools 8!!!!
I understand your frustration as I've also had similar issues (not with Reaper) with software in the past. But it usually gets resolved and you kind of forget about it. For the most part, I don't see people complaining about Reaper's stability any more than any other DAW.
Good luck.

My own fault for sure. What Theme are you using BTW? | What you need to do is step back for a second, restore your Reaper install to all defaults and then get yourself a pad and pen and document EVERYTHING you do, up until the time it craps on you.
I would wipe the entire install and start fresh with the latest version.
Maybe you got a hosed copy or something did not upgrade properly on your system.
This can happen if you are running antivirus programs etc.
Some files may not get installed properly because the antivirus program tries to protect your current system. And depending upon how you have the antivirus program set up, it might not even warn you. It should all be in the logs however.
Also like Kenny says, get on over to the Reaper forum and start posting your information.
There is a reason why you are having troubles. With enough information, the fine people over there will get to the bottom of it for sure.
Just be patient and like I suggested, start fresh. It's both good for your system and also your soul and patience
Best wishes!

Hmm, I may have to do that myself...just tried rendering a single MP3 file for an audio-only project (no plugins) that had 1 track and Reaper basically froze. Was unrecoverable after 5 minutes, so I had to force quit...quite temperamental it seems.
I posted my issues in the Reaper forum FWIW - nobody had a solution so far...will try out 4.21, but for the time being had to use Logic 9 to get the job done. Worked flawlessly.
UPDATE: Nope, same issue in 4.21. Freezes on render. Brilliant. Not even PT 8 LE was this frustrating.

Oh and complaining about the possiblity of having themes in the first place, and having to look for them... remind me of how many DAWs actually allow theming ? | Installing the skin is simple, yes. But most themes have much more than the skin - cursors, keymaps, menu sets, icons, etc. All of those have to be installed manually.
And perhaps other DAWs don't need to allow full theming because their default skin doesn't suck? |

I have no idea how to use reaper what so ever.
cant load a VSTi or plugin.
Cant fine the tool pallet, Does it have one?
In my attached photo, WTF is that?
I can run circles around Cubase, Nuendo, Logic but cant get reaper out of second gear and I HATE that WTF photo I posted.
I cant cut or edit wav in reaper, cant shorten meta data, cant get it do to anything.

New Project, Open Project, Save Project, Project Settings, Undo, Redo, Metronome (on/off), Auto-crossfade (on/off), Item Grouping (on/off), Ripple Editing, Envelope Points move with Audio, Grid Settings, Snap Settings, Locking Quote:

I cant cut or edit wav in reaper, cant shorten meta data, cant get it do to anything. | Reaper, like all other DAWs, isn't going to suit everyone. If you can't do anything in it, then it's a sign of your mental ability. RTFM dude. And you could have found out whether you like it or not in a trial period, which you don't get with most other DAWs. So no loss there. I think the most frustrated ppl are the ones that got very used to working in one DAW, want Reaper's features, yet want it to look & feel as their previous DAW. In which case you still have to learn (oops) WALTER.

I cant cut or edit wav in reaper, cant shorten meta data, cant get it do to anything. | That's funny. Literally everyone I explained just the basics to (like in 5 minutes, nothing was written down), was able to do all this and more |

A bit too much for me ... It's a DAW, not a console.
Hell, now even real consoles look more like a DAW than Imperial !!
And it's nice to "look" like a P&G fader, but the feel is what makes it special.

That's why you can connect it to an external monitor. Or two. Or three. Or not? :D

Yep - been fooling around with this for a few hour and I may have to buy a second large hi res monitor just for the fun of it.
This is the most complete theme I have ever seen on Reaper.
Even the generic controls in popup plug windows ae apparently all "fixed" to lend with the theme.
Another 'well done' to WT from me.

This theme is stunning but you need the monitor real estate to run it properly. There is scaled down version in the installer though.
Wonderful work by a wonderful designer!! |
