Smooth Analog Sounding EQ?

I just demoed PSP Squad because I saw so many great reviews, but I don't really like the sound at all. I think they sound harsh, and there's also many different ones that come in the pack... seems confusing and redundant.

Can anyone recommend a great EQ plugin that sounds smooth / thick / analog that doesn't require a dongle?

DDMF 6144 (Neve Portico "clone") DDMF: VST plugins, AU plugins, audio software

= cheap, smooth, easy on CPU, tight low end, shimmer-y highs, grabby mids, special....simply amazing!

It's all going to depend on your expectations and that is the bottom line. While plugs are very good at surgical EQ they don't pull off a perfect copy of expensive analog EQ. That's just one of those things you get what you pay for. Marketing will tell you otherwise but marketing about inexpensive analog EQ's is just as wrong. Good analog EQ costs big bucks and I doubt there will be any equal plug substitute anytime in the near future.

Well, don't forget that a lot of the money you pay for a hardware EQ goes into things like decreasing the noise floor and generally keeping the signal as clean and free from external influences as possible. Which is something you get for free in any plugin...

I actually just demoed Noble Q and that one doesn't seem bad. Does anyone else think that Noble Q sounds good but not Squad?

Different! Noble is smooth (also RetroQ isn't "hard") Console, Classic and McQ are hard (but good IMO)

try the DDMF I suggested!
