Thread Starter | Some Dual G5 tests....
I posted this in the Sample Reverb thread.... I ran Logic on a Dual G5 today. I was able to run 28 SpaceDesigners (running the default patch that comes up when you load the plugin) In a separate test, I ran 896 voices of Logic's ES2 synthesizer (again, default patch set to 32 voice polyphony)... My Dual 1.25GHz G4 can only run 320. The disk bandwidth (track count off internal drive) seems to be almost double what my Dual 1.25GHz G4 was pulling. Extremely quiet as well. I plugged in an external FW drive, and the drive was noiser than the computer. All in all, a VERY nice machine! |

Somewhat better than my 4 Space Designers on a dual 867 g4 Hmph This is the kind of thing that is going to get people to buy it, unlike bogus wierdo charts I WANT TO RUN THAT MANY SPACE DESIGNERS GODDAMMIT! Just because someone else can Were you running them on Stereo or mono tracks? I could get 4 Space Designers running as plugs on 4 stereo EXS24 tracks

FWIW ... we had the first G5 in a couple of days ago. Damn it's beautifull. Even the little screws on the inside of the cover that opens on the side are designer chosen. Kinda off topic but I'm sure that if there was something like a computer's playboy the G5 would make it at least to playmate of the year.

Bevvy This is funny - you might have seen me posting on the alitverb performance thread. Well taking the same file (built in audio, 512 samples buffer) stereo 24 bit file. I could play 6 instances, on a 867 PB. This is exactly double what I got from Altiverb. Preferred the interface too - but since I also use PT, no go! Shame though tempted to get it and run as standalone with Logics i/o objects Pete |

kenn!!! stop saying that!!! or you'll be sent to studio 'D' to while away the rest of your twisted, gloating existence... ...while I play around on your G5 Here's a question - where are the other IR's to play with? You only get 5 on the demo, I know you can use any old waveform to make things 'wierd', but where's the rest? And also This is now a real pain in the arse about the G5, because I need a laptop and the only thing stopping me getting one is getting a G5 instead :( |

Thanks for posting that kenn. This alone may influence me to go with Space Designer over AltiVerb. (if I ever drum up the money for either) Unfortunately, AV's reliance on AlvtiVec may be it's unndoing on the G5 since floating point is now the CPU's strong point. I had the same experience with my external drive, the G5 is quieter! |
